Title: Dragnet EBusiness Ltd

1
Why e-Commerce
The dotcom bubble may have well and truly burst,
but the need for pragmatic e-business solutions
is greater than ever.
Alastair Sinclair
  • Dragnet E-Business Ltd

2
What we would like to cover
  • Why you should be thinking of investing in
    e-Business
  • Demonstration of integrated e-Commerce
  • Examples e-Commerce sites
  • Summary

3
Why e-Commerce
You should not be thinking of adopting
e-Business because it is fashionable, but
simply because it makes good business sense. It
helps you to
  • Reduce your costs
  • Sell more
  • Improve customer service
  • Reach a larger market

4
Reduce your costs
  • The average cost of raising a purchase order is
100 - if its done right!
  • When mistakes occur through incorrect billing
details, wrong prices and simple human error, the
cost escalates rapidly, quickly amounting to
    thousands of pounds per month
  • Additionally, some companies are spending up to
8,000 a year manually re-keying data onto their
    websites
  • The right e-Commerce solution will help you to
    significantly reduce these costs by
  • Removing/automating core processes
  • Reducing errors through the re-keying of data
  • Reducing errors through misquoting prices and
    terms to specific customers

  • Company providing complex refrigeration and
air-conditioning products to clients across the
    globe
  • Selling process required raising 7 individual
pieces of paper for each order
  • Working with DRAGNET to develop their on-line
order system, Harp have reduced activities cost
in this area by 30 whilst simultaneously
    increasing volumes
  • Savings estimated at gt20,000 per year
  • System being extended to include direct order
entry by field sales force via their laptops to
    save more cost and time

Dragnet has propelled our company from the
ice-age into the world of e-commerce at a really
affordable price

6
Increase your sales
  • Attracting customers is probably the most
important activity for all businesses - it is
    also amongst the most expensive
  • The right e-Business solution will help you to
grow your business quickly and cost effectively
  • Channel that works 24/7 at less than the cost of
    your cheapest employee
  • Automatically cross-sells and suggest
    alternatives for out-of-stock items
  • Integrates directly to lower sales admin costs
  • Deals with all of your customers quicker and on
    their terms

7
Because we sell to a specialist niche market, it
simply isnt practical to open stores on every
high street. We needed to think of innovative
ways of expanding our business and the Web fits
the bill perfectly.
  • Supplies instruments and other supplies to a
    diverse range of customers
  • Looking to grow the business without extending
    high street presence
  • Worked with DRAGNET to develop website into
on-line trading site which has allowed them to
increase their offering to some 2,000 stocked
items whilst lowering order processing costs
  • Flexible to allow specific trading terms for each
group of customers - from individuals to schools
    LEAs
  • Site receiving 60,000 hits/month

8
Improving service to your customers
  • Having acquired your customers it is essential
that you can provide the level of service
required that will make them want to buy again
  • The right e-Business solution will help you to
    continually delight your customers
  • Their orders are automatically acknowledged
  • They are always offered the right prices terms
  • They enter their own orders to ensure their order
delivery details are correct, and feel more in
    control of the process
  • They can do business with you when it suits them

9
Response from customers has been good. The site
has been widely praised for its ease of use and
simple shopping process. It is now far easier for
buyers to order our products
  • Company that supplies travel goods to direct
mail, high street and airport retailers and
    distributors in 30 countries
  • New on-line system developed with DRAGNET has
significantly reduced the complexity of the
ordering process with consequential cost savings
  • Integration of the site with other accounting
systems has ensured accuracy of pricing on the
    site
  • Critically, it has delivered significant benefits
to clients - order placing that used to take 2
client staff an entire day can now be done by 1
person in a couple of hours

10
Reaching a larger market
  • When market conditions are difficult it is
important for a business to cast its net as far
    as possible
  • The global nature of the world wide web means
    that e-Business provides some unique
    opportunities in this area
  • The right e-Business solution will help you tap
    this new potential by
  • Positioning your business as a credible player,
giving it a large company look feel
  • Allowing you to be open for business when your
    customers are open for business
  • Allowing customers to find your products
services, whether you are actively marketing to
    them or not

11
  • Leading UK supplier of orthodontic equipment with
25 of its sales coming from abroad
  • Worked with DRAGNET to develop an on-line
ordering system that was customer friendly and
could be used across the world
  • Customers can get constantly accurate pricing
data without having to call in, and so place
    orders 24 hours a day
  • Reduced the numbers of brochures used, saving
money especially on those being sent abroad
  • As a direct result of the site, OthroCare won new
    customers in Russia, Latvia Estonia

We are sure that DRAGNET will be a major boost
to our business

Why NOT e-business?
13
Why NOT e-business?
No opportunity My customers just arent asking
for this
  • Despite the fascination for reporting doom
gloom about e-Business, the truth is that the
vast majority of households now use the internet
regularly and thousands of businesses are going
    on-line every week
  • Increasingly mid-market companies and government
bodies are requiring their suppliers to deal with
    them over the net
  • More of your customers would go on line if YOU
were to show them how dealing with you on-line
would help THEM achieve significant benefits in
    terms of efficiency and costs

14
Why NOT e-business?
Too costly Doing e-Business is very expensive
  • Dont think about it as a cost. You dont even
have to see it as an investment for the future -
e-Business will deliver real, tangible benefits
to the business you have TODAY
  • Upfront costs are quickly recovered by having
more efficient processes and cheaper sales growth
  • Running an integrated e-Business system like
DRAGNET, costs less than 500/month, compares
favourably with the cost of manually keying
orders (at about 100 per order) and allows staff
to be reallocated to more value-adding tasks
    elsewhere in the business

15
Why NOT e-business?
Unproven technology Its just too risky to
invest in technology that might not work now and
which will probably be obsolete in a years time
  • Like all new technology there is a learning
curve. But e-Business is well past the early
adopter phase - it works now and it will only
    get better
  • Invest in products that are built on standard
industry tools such as Microsoft - As technology
moves on you can simply migrate your solutions to
the next versions and it should be scaleable

16
Why NOT e-business?
Lack of security My customers dont like the
idea of hackers breaking into our systems and
disappearing with their details
  • Again, things have moved on. The fact that most
of us have now experienced shopping on the
internet has allayed most people fears. But just
    in case
  • Invest in technology that has built-in security
features plus SSL SET (the padlock you see on
the screen), ensure the data is held behind
secure firewalls. Finally, unique user names and
passwords to gain access to customer records.
  • DRAGNET has had no security breaches to date

17
Why NOT e-business?
Lack of in-house skills We dont have people in
our business to run these new systems. Well be
forced to recruit new, more expensive people
  • If your e-Commerce solution is based around your
current back office accounting systems your staff
can access the additional functionality with just
    2-3 keystrokes
  • Training requirements would be minimal.
  • Your e-Commerce solution should simply be an
extension to your order processing system.
