Title: What are kidney-filtering problems?
1WHAT ARE KIDNEY-FILTERING PROBLEMS?
2Each of your kidneys has around 1 million filters
called glomeruli. The glomeruli are the tiny
clusters of blood vessels or capillaries with
small pores in them. The blood vessels are
structured in a way that fluid leaks from the
bloodstream into a miniature of tubules. Tubules
absorb important substances from the fluid and
make urine out of it. The urine which is produced
is drained out into larger tubules and goes out
of the kidneys. The tubule permits fluid and
small molecules to skip through them. When there
is any problem in your kidney filters, the
kidneys are not able to function at their best.
Multiple morbidities in the wake of damaged
filters may develop, some of which can be
life-threatening as well. Hence, one should be
aware of such problems, to begin with, the right
treatment at the right time.

3KIDNEY FILTERING PROBLEMS CAN BE CLASSIFIED INTO
FOUR TYPES
- 1. Glomerulonephritis Also called a nephritic
syndrome, it refers to the inflammation within
the glomeruli. Such inflammation allows red blood
cells and protein to escape through them along
with the urine. Some instances of
glomerulonephritis or nephrotic syndrome are
hereditary also. In glomerulonephritis, the
inflammation develops because of a faulty immune
system. For instance - Antibodies like IgA may attach themselves to the
kidneys or molecules linked to them and cause
inflammation. - Antibodies outside the kidneys may move to the
kidneys bloodstream through blood and form
clusters within the glomeruli. - If glomeruli get damaged completely, the kidney
function reduces to an extent. Inflammation in
your glomeruli by the antibodies called IgA often
becomes the reason for IgA nephropathy. The
scarring in the tissues may obstruct urine
production and cause problems for you. Normally,
glomerulonephritis is caused by inflammation of
the blood vessels but in some cases, it also
corresponds to heredity.

42. Nephrotic syndrome Nephrotic syndrome occurs
when there is damage to the glomeruli that
permits protein (even large molecules) to skip
through them and pass along with the urine.
Nephrotic syndrome is not a disease in itself,
rather a group of symptoms caused by the damaged
glomeruli. Large amounts of a protein called
albumin skips from the blood into the urine
during nephrotic syndrome. The leakage may or may
not be inflammatory, however. If nephrotic
syndrome is caused by an inflammatory process,
you may witness red blood cells in the urine,
giving urine a dark-colored appearance. With a
noninflammatory process, no red blood cells slip
into the urine. Once the glomeruli become
scarred, the kidney function drops and you may
develop end-stage renal disease. 3.
Tubulointerstitial nephritis It is the
inflammation of the tubules or not if tubules,
the tissues surrounding the tubules get damaged
at this time. You may think of tubulointerstitial
nephritis as caused by an allergic reaction to
drugs. The normal healthy tissues of the kidneys
get replaced by scar tissues in the kidneys. The
damage to the tubules or the surrounding tissues
may inflame the kidneys and results in obstructed
kidney function. The result could be concentrated
urine, imbalance of acid and base, electrolyte
imbalance, more toxins and waste like BUN in your
blood, etc. Such kidney filtering problems are
bound to cause kidney failure in the later stages.

54. Reflux nephropathy Another condition called
reflux nephropathy is the possible cause of
inflammation and damage to the kidneys. Such a
condition arises when urine starts flowing in the
backward direction from the bladder. The urine
builds-up in the kidneys and becomes the reason
for UTI and pyelonephritis. Signs of kidney
filtering problems When you first start to have
kidney damage, you may or may not witness any
signs. But later, following of the signs may
appear
- Concentrated urine
- Blood in the urine
- Urine which is foamy and cloudy
- Smelly urine
- Fluid retention
- Decreased ability of the body to fight against
infections

- Heart palpitations
- High blood pressure
- Swelling in the body
- Bone disorder
- Chest pain
- Vomiting and nausea
- Dizziness
Such signs should never be ignored and taken for
granted. If needed, you should take a call from a
nephrologist to know the exact cause and reason
behind the kidney-filtering problems. You can
also consult us at Karma Ayurveda Hospital if you
are looking for an ayurvedic treatment to mend
your kidney problems.
