PRONAME General objective

• A National Program for Environmental Monitoring,
  Assessment and Management of Persistent
  Bioaccumulative and Toxic Substances
• Will generate information to support and improve
  the creation of environmental policies focused on
  the identification, assessment, reduction and/or
  elimination of PBTS from the Mexican environment

PRONAME Scope

• oMonitoring in at least
• THREE index or references sites not directly
  impacted by human activities
• THREE satellite sites impacted by various human
  activities mining, industry, agriculture,
  settlements indigenous and urban
• PBTS include 12 POPs, metals (As, Cd, Hg, Pb),
  PAHs, emerging compounds
• Environmental media and human bio-indicators
• Air Monitoring Network goal of 15 monitors
  across the country, including the six selected
  sites
• Include sites for environmental monitoring for
  dioxins and furans, and mercury.

Monitoring Sites and PRONAME Activities

• Start the operation of 2 PRONAME SITES Ria
  Celestum (index site) and Valle del Yaqui
  (satellite site)
• Strengthen the capabilities of Mexican
  technicians on sampling and laboratory analysis
• Organize two international workshops
• Develop sampling and laboratory analysis
  protocols
• Secure a minimal annual budget
• Strengthen international cooperation
• Build an internet database on PBTS
