    study at the high school level

    on foreign language regents exam

Health Program Shift from Grade 7 to Grade 6
  • Provide new health curriculum at a more
    appropriate grade level
  • Align K-5 health program students entering middle
    school
  • Health would be offered at grades 6, 7, and 8 for
    one year to accommodate change in program
  • Budgeted - transfer of present resource to cover
    one year program cost in grade 7, if GOAL
    proposal adopted

Acceleration in Studio Art Opportunity in Grade 8
  • Students able to begin art sequence for high
    school in grade 8, allowing for more elective
    opportunities in grades 9-12
  • Provides acceleration opportunity for students
    who are highly able in art
  • Enhances opportunity for AP art course being
    offered at the high school in the future
  • Budgeted - use of present art staff from the
    middle school

    more success has been shown

    services through homework club

Young Scholars Opportunity at Grade 6
  • Extends Young Scholars program to grade 4-6
    continuum
  • Offers enrichment opportunity in humanities,
    complementing grade 6 Scotia Scholars program in
    science and math
  • Students eligible for either half-day program (or
    both if qualified)
  • Planned to include consulting/collaboration
    component for other 1/2 day of Young Scholar
    teacher
  • Budgeted - 20,200

ELA honors Opportunity in Grade 7
  • Grade 7 students who are highly able in
    humanities meet every other day during tutorial
    in enriched reader/writer workshop
  • Honors designation offered on MS report card for
    students attending workshop and their regular ELA
    class
  • Coordinate workshop with regular class
    activities, with ability to supplant some
    assignments
  • Extends continuum of Middle School ELA enrichment
    through grade 7, and ultimately to grade 9 ELA
    honors course.
  • Preserves features of Middle School philosophy,
    including teaming and heterogeneity
  • Budgeted - use of present staff

Teaching Assistant Time for Co-Teaching Model
  • Enables co-teaching model to be fully implemented
    in grade 6
  • Enables compliance in grade 6 resource rooms of
    mandated 51 ratio
  • Supports our MS co-teaching staffing needs
  • Budgeted - 2.75 hours /day 7,200 ( 60
    grant funded)

  • Current Dean position has responsibilities
    consistent with that of AP
  • Present State certification categories do not
    include Dean position
  • Improves competitiveness of application pool

  • Add .4 English position
  • Creates GOAL Program with grade 9 and 10 ELA and
    math capacity
  • Satisfy NCLB highly qualified certification
    requirement for English
  • Provide certificated math and English teachers in
    GOAL Program
  • Enables transfer of present staffing to fill
    grade 7 one-year health need

Expansion of Life Skills Program
  • Increase capacity from 9 to 12 students, creating
    home district opportunity for three additional
    students
  • Initial program two years ago was staffed for a
    capacity of 5 students
  • Additional staffing includes .1 social work, .3
    speech and 1.0 job coach teaching assistant
    (-1.0 aide)
  • Fully utilize 12 student capacity
  • Budgeted - 50,793 ( we believe this to be a
    cost avoidance proposal)
