Scope (1)

• Development of functions/services to provide time
  critical information on natural disasters
  (before, during, after) and crisis information in
  Europe and elsewhere.
• Services/function are Web oriented to be end 2004
  integrated on a Web Portal (MASS)
• These studies deal in Europe with flood risk
  assessment, flood monitoring, flood damage
  assessment as well as storm damage assessment.

• EOLES (services/functions)
• Fast delivery through the Internet of large, high
  definition, satellite-generated images (ISO
  INFORMATIQUE, France)
• GEO referencing of any satellite image within
  very short deadlines (less than three hours as
  compared to about a week to-day) using the
  RealCup concept initiated by GAEL Consultant
  (France)

• Image processing capability
• to analyse storm damages in forest (using the
  image processing capability of JOANNEUM (Austria)
  
• to implement object oriented techniques for image
  enhancement and segmentation in order to perform
  land use classification and optimization (using
  JOANNEUM expertise)
• to better assess flood damages based on the
  expertise of Geosciences (France)

EOLES?MASS

• ICD MASS is public upon request of ESA
• EOLES consortium develop their services in
  function of this ICD
• EOLES services/function are thus pluggable on
  MASS at the end of the project

Conclusion

• EOLES Service provider can concentrate their
  development on their services
• The development of service chaining does not
  require the development of generic modules e.g
  format conversion which is not the specialisation
  of the service provider.
• MASS will allow to optimise the development of
  new services by chaining services
• MASS can be a common platform for any future or
  existing EO service to be commercialised through
  Internet
