EIP Update Q4 Status
At end Q4 2006, 84 of the EIP action items have
been completed. Of the withdrawn items, 11 were
withdrawn pre July 2005 and three items were
withdrawn with CAP endorsement in November 2006.

  being made

• Significant progress made on Water Master Plan
• Condensate recovery complete and commissioned
• Oil and salt process water separation completed
• Segregated tankage for salt process water
  completed
• Pilot trial for activated carbon treatment for
  removal of dissolved contaminants from salt
  process water
• Installation of oil sump high level alarms and
  upgrade non-return valves completed

EIP Q4 Progress Highlights

• Further progress has been made on groundwater
  with Stage Two of the groundwater remediation
  system commissioned in Q4
• The groundwater remediation system
• Operates continuously, and recovers groundwater
  (total fluids) from multiple extraction points
  across the foreshore area (in the vicinity of the
  salt water intake) and from the eastern boundary
  interception trench systems
• Pumps groundwater to a dedicated plant (Stage
  Two) located within the refinery for recycling of
  recoverable hydrocarbons and treatment of
  dissolved phase impact
• Measures and collects data to allow detailed
  analysis in preparation for future
  management/remediation actions

Ambient Monitoring Results

• Ambient monitoring results for 2006 are on the
  website (www.shell.com.au/geelong)
• Results demonstrate the refinerys continued
  environmental improvement
• Monitoring is done by independent NATA
  accredited consultants
• Results show that local industrial emissions had
  minimal impact on the air quality surrounding the
  Geelong refinery

Ambient Monitoring Results

• In accordance with EPA licence requirements,
  Shell is required to monitor air outside the
  refinery for various substances including
  Particulate Matter (PM10), Sulphur Dioxide,
  Fluoride and Benzene
• In 2006, all data recorded was below set
  criteria, except for days with high bushfire
  activity in parts of the State, which caused high
  particulate levels across the region
