US MINT
The U. S. Mint is a Dept of the Treasury bureau
in charge of creating coinage for the United
States trade and commerce and controlling the
movement of bullion. It has no authority to
print paper money that is the responsibility of
the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. The first
U. S. Mint was established in Philadelphia in
1792, and it was quickly followed by other
centers, each with its mint mark. Four mints are
in operation Philadelphia, Denver, San
Francisco, and West Point.
