Mission Statement
  • Our mission at W. C. Friday is to increase
    student achievement by providing a safe and
    nurturing learning environment built on the
    foundation of respect and cooperation among
    students, staff, parents and community!

Band Goals
By joining the W. C. Friday Cavalier Middle
School Band you have committed yourself to a
pursuit of excellence in music. There are
several goals we will work towards this school
year. They consist of learning and
mastering the fundamental skills of music
developing musical standards and quality
musicianship creating an appreciation and
understanding that will enrich each members life
today and for the future.

Class Room Expectations
  • You are expected to come to class everyday
    prepared and ready for class.
  • You will observe all school rules at all times.
  • You will respect yourselves and all others.
  • You will be expected to play every day in class.
    Only written excuses from doctors will be
    accepted.

Class Room Expectations
  • You will treat all equipment with care. (Any
    damage to school property will be the
    responsibility of the student and parent.)
  • You will remain quiet and in our seats during
    class.
  • There will be no food, drink, or gum in the band
    room!

Consequences
  • 1st Offense - Warning
  • 2nd Offense - Silent Lunch
  • 3rd Offense - Lunch Detention
  • 4th Offense - After School Detention and
    Mandatory Parent Contact
  • 5th Offense - Team Meeting with Student and
    Madatory Parent Contact
  • 6th Offense - Office Referral

Instrument Policy
  • Instruments may be brought to the band room each
    morning and picked up in the afternoon.
  • Only band members are allowed in the band room.
  • Because instrument cases look similar, you must
    have a tag attached to your case.
  • No student is to handle or play another students
    instrument.
  • W. C. Friday is not responsible for ay students
    personal equipment.
  • If you are playing a school owned instrument both
    the musician and parent will be required to sign
    a School Usage form.

Grading Policy
  • weekly quiz grades (playing and written at times)
  • daily participation with the proper materials in
    class and in concerts
  • weekly practice charts
  • work sheets must be kept in your three-ring
    binder which will be checked weekly

Grading Policy Continued
  • There will be a notebook sign-up if you would
    like some extra assistance after school.
  • Any student that makes a satisfactory attempt at
    playing their test and receives below an 80, will
    be eligible for a retest at a time set up by the
    student and director before or after school. Any
    student that refuses to play a test will not be
    eligible for a retest. Any student that does not
    bring materials on the test day will be allowed
    to make up the test, but will receive a 10 point
    penalty.

What Do You Need?
  • Everyone needs a POSITIVE ATTITUDE!
  • Everyone needs a name tag
  • Everyone needs the Essential Elements 2000
  • Book 1 for 6th graders plus Alfreds
    Theory Book I
  • Book 1 2 for 7th graders
  • Book 2 for 8th graders
  • Everyone needs a three-ring binder with pencil
    and highlighter for everyone.

  • Trumpets, Horns, Baritones, Tubas One bottle of
    valve oil. A container of tuning slide grease
    and a soft cloth.
  • Trombones One container of slide cream or slide
    oil. If you are using slide cream you will also
    need a water spray bottle. (like a hair-spray
    mist bottle) Tuning slide grease.
  • Percussion Your snare drum along with 2B or SD1
    and a pair of M-4 Bell mallets or equivalent.
  • Flute A silver polish cloth or soft cotton cloth
    and a cleaning rod.
  • Clarinet At least 4 working reeds at all time.
    Reeds should be 2 1/2 Rico for 7th graders and 2
    1/2- 3 Vandouren for 8th graders. A cleaning
    swab and mouthpiece.
  • Saxophone At least 4 working reeds at all time.
    Reeds should be 2 1/2 Rico for 7th graders, and 2
    1/2- 3 for 8th graders. A cleaning swab.
    Mouthpiece cap, an end plug and a neck strap.
