42ELECTRONIC MEDIA USE RULES AND REGULATIONS
- The Menifee County Public School District is
pleased to offer users (faculty, staff, students,
or others) access to electronic media. This
includes the computer networks for electronic
media and the Internet. To gain access to e-mail
and the Internet, all students and any other
child under the age of 18 must obtain
parent/guardian permission and must sign the
appropriate section of the student information
form. Students 18 or over may sign their own
names. As with any property of the district or
school, use of electronic media, by any minor
(student or other), and all adult users, shall be
governed by all applicable federal and state
laws, local board and individual school policies,
rules and procedures. - Access to e-mail and the Internet will enable
users to explore many libraries, databases, and
bulletin boards while exchanging messages with
Internet users throughout the world. The
potential positive impact on learning is
tremendous. Still, families should be warned
that some material accessible via the Internet
might contain items that are illegal, defamatory,
inaccurate, or potentially offensive. While our
intent is to use all electronic media to further
educational goals and objectives, users may find
ways to access other materials as well. We
believe that the benefits from using electronic
media in the form of information resources and
opportunities for collaboration, exceed any
disadvantages. While use will be monitored, and
other options such as software that attempts to
block access to improper information may be
employed, this still does not guarantee a 100
shield. Parents and guardians of minors are
responsible for setting and conveying the
standards that their children should follow when
using electronic media. All adult users are
responsible for their own behavior. Menifee
County Public Schools supports and respects each
familys right to decide whether or not to apply
for access.
43Electronic Media Use Rules and Regulations cont.
- Rules and Regulations All users are responsible
for good behavior while using any school
electronic media. Proper behavior should mirror
what it would be anytime at work or in the
classroom. Communications on a computer network
is often public in nature. The network is
provided to conduct research and communicate with
others. Access to network services is given to
users who act in a responsible manner.
Parent/Guardian permission is required for
students and others under 18 years old. Access
is a privilege-not a right. - Individual users of the district computer
networks are responsible for their own behavior
and communications over networks. It is presumed
that users will comply with district and school
policies, rules and standards. Beyond the
clarification of policies, rules and standards,
the district or schools is not responsible for
restricting, monitoring, or controlling the
communications of individuals using the network. - Network storage areas may be treated like school
lockers. Network administrators may review files
and communications to maintain system integrity
and insure that users are using the system
responsibly. Users should not expect that files
stored on district or school servers will always
be private.
44Code of conduct for school bus riders
- The level of the offense determines disciplinary
action. - The offenses are broken down into four classes.
- A minor, or class I offense, is defined as any
inappropriate conduct or disruption on a school
bus. It could mean any kind of misbehavior from
eating, drinking, littering, chewing tobacco or
failure to sit in an assigned seat, to getting on
or getting off the bus incorrectly. - The first offense would lead to a conference with
the student at school and a students parents
would be notified. The next violation of a minor
offense would lead to the loss of bus privileges
for a minimum of one day. The third violation
would be a minimum of three days. - An intermediate, or class ii offense, is defined
as any failure to follow directions related to
safety and order on the school bus. This
includes unnecessary noise, refusing to obey
driver, making any gestures to people out of the
bus, failure to remain in a seat, or any other
behavior relating to safety.
45Code of conduct for school bus riders
- Disciplinary action for a class ii violation
would be a loss of bus privileges for a minimum
of three days. A second intermediate offense
would draw a minimum of six days suspension of
bus privileges. The third violation would be a
minimum of ten days suspension of bus privileges. - The third type of offense is a major, or class
iii offense. It addresses violations of safety
procedures on a school bus that may lead to
people on the bus getting hurt, or the bus being
damaged. The measure also refers to any
unjustified activation of a bus emergency system,
including emergency doors and windows, unless
directed by the bus driver. - This offense would also include, fighting,
pushing, tripping, smoking, throwing objects
inside or outside bus, etc. - Students who violate a class iii offense for the
first time would lose bus privileges for a
minimum of ten school days. A second violation
would result in a suspension of bus privileges
for a minimum of 20 school days. A third
violation would be a minimum of 30 school days.
If a student repeatedly displays inappropriate
behavior on a bus, the student would lose bus
privileges for the rest of the school year. - The most severe class of violations is the zero
tolerance, or class iv offense. A student who
breaks rules at this level would not be able to
ride a bus to school for one calendar year. - Further discipline may be applied in accordance
with the school discipline policy.
