Goal of Common Course Numbering
  • The CTC Common Course Numbering relates to
    transfer within the CTC system.
  • In about 3 years, we anticipate re-labeling
common courses with the same Dept Abbreviation,
Number, and Title for the courses that meet one
    or more definitions of common.
  • The point is to clearly identify common courses
from the many courses that will not have a common
    number.
  • To achieve this goal in 3 years, we expect to
review the Universal list this spring the Other
list next year.  The lists will be ready for
common designation only after approval by the
Instruction Commission at their spring or
    subsequent meetings.

should they be phased-in in some way?

25
Examine the List Document
  • Current Working Draft of Universal and Other List
    of Common Courses -
  • http//www.sbctc.ctc.edu/education/CommonCourseNum
    bering.asp
  • Enable Macros (security level medium)

26
Remember CCN is NOT
  • It is NOT common course descriptions, or
    outlines.
  • It is NOT a change in course content to align
    with a common course number.
  • It IS a new label on already existing transfer
    practices between CTCs

27
Next Steps
  • IC to approve Universal list (spring meeting)
Universal acceptance as equivalent between all
CTCs that eliminates need for course by course
    review
  • Also identify Other List for faculty review
  • Faculty Review of Other List
  • Full implementation within 3 years
