Tests and Grades

• Two tests mid-term and a final exam
• Tests are 30 each and HW is 40
• If you miss a test, then a make-up is real hard.
• Grades approximately A 90, B 80, C 70, D 60
• Fridays will be lab day see schedule
• Bonus points (1) for presenting your solution(s)
  to problems

Outline and Schedule

• See Schedule and keep your copy.
• The primary assembler language will be the LC3
  see book and notes
• You can carry the LC3 anywhere and work on any
  machine. It fits on a diskette, memory stick,
  CD-RW, network drive.
• Keep a back-up of your work on some system

Hardware vs. Software

• Many people, including faculty, describe
  themselves as hardware types or software types.
• Both are part of a computing system. And knowing
  the basics and limitations of both is optimal to
  understanding computers.
• In the early days of computers, this distinction
  did not exist as knowledge of both was necessary.

A Computer System

• The primary item in all computers is the CPU or
  Central Processing Unit.
• Other components (memory, hard disk, keyboard,
  mouse, ) extend the functions of a computer
• Most people when they use the term computer mean
  the CPU plus the other components.
