Introduction
Ty Pennington and the Extreme Makeover Home
Edition Team has contacted you to assist them in
building a mathematically inspired home. Dr.
Evil, the crazy mathematician, has many geometric
concepts he would like incorporated into his new
house.

Task
You and your team will be required to make a
bid based on the materials needed to create Dr.
Evils math masterpiece. He specified that he
would like his new home to be a rectangular or
square pyramid. To make his home the tallest in
town he wants his homes height to be 42 feet.

Process
The Extreme Makeover Team has broken down for
you the specialists that you will need to
determine your overall bid for Dr. Evil.
Remember He will probably select the lowest
bid.

• - The carpenter will be in charge of the exterior
  architecture, the lumber, and the sheet rock.
• The painter/flooring specialist will determine
  the best paint type to use and how much they will
  need. They will also select the shapes and design
  of the flooring including the amounts they will
  need.
• The designer will create a presentation board to
  show Dr. Evil their plans for his new home.

Carpenters Role
As the carpenter you will need to figure the
amount of the materials you will need to complete
the pyramid. Remember that Dr. Evil has picked
the height to be 42 feet. Dr. Evil would also
like at least 2500 square feet of living space.
It is up to you how you would like to accomplish
this.

• Design and draw the rectangular or square pyramid
  dimensions.
• Show work calculating the lengths of the edges of
  the pyramid and include on your drawing.
• 2 x 4s will need to be placed at least every 16
  inches. Dont forget to determine what interior
  walls and floors you will be creating.
• Determine the lengths and amounts of 2 x 4 you
  will need to order, include your work.
• Determine how much wood siding you will need for
  the exterior.
• Determine the amount of sheet rock you will need
  for all interior walls.
• Create a proposal including the cost per supply
  and total cost.

Painters/Flooring Specialists Role
Since you are the expert on painting you will
need to determine whether you will use latex or
oil based paints to paint the exterior faces of
Dr. Evils pyramid.

• Create a list of the benefits of the paint you
  chose. (latex vs. oil based) Remember that you
  will be painting wood siding.
• Show your calculations finding the surface area
  of the exterior faces of the pyramid.
• Determine the number of gallons of paint you will
  need to paint the wood siding.
• Create a proposal including the cost per gallon
  and total cost.

Painters/Flooring Specialists Role
Dr. Evil has specified that you design three
different geometric shapes to include on the
floor of his home. You get to choose the shapes
and size of these shapes to include. These shapes
will be created using tile and the remaining
flooring area will be carpet.

• Draw the design you plan to use for the floor
  layout including the dimensions of the entire
  floor and the shapes that you will include. Make
  sure to include the dimensions of the shapes as
  well.
• Choose the type of tile and carpet you will use.
  Remember to keep the price in mind.
• Calculate the amount of tile and carpet you will
  need including the work you did to create your
  calculations.
• Create a proposal including the cost of tile and
  carpet as well as total cost.

Designers Role
You need to prepare a presentation board to
present to Dr. Evil. You will need to showcase
what you plan for the exterior and interior of
his home including dimensions. You need to
include drawings and sketches.

• Gather information and input from the other
  members of your team to share on your board with
  Dr. Evil.
• Making your board include pictures and plans will
  make it more likely Dr. Evil will select your
  team to build his home.
• Include the total cost of the project. You may
  choose to show the cost of individual projects,
  but must have a final project cost. Showing work
  on the board is not necessary, but you do need to
  have dimensions.
• You will want to include plans for the floors and
  walls that the painter/flooring specialist
  created.
• You will be in charge of presenting the
  presentation for your plans, but can have your
  team share additional specifics during the
  presentation.

Designers Role Continued

• Make sure to share all the information, from what
  type of paint the painter chose to what color it
  will be.
• What type of wood siding is the carpenter using?
• What does the floor look like? What colors will
  be used?
• Are there going to be interior rooms?
• How is the home laid out so that Dr. Evil has at
  least 2500 square feet of living space?
• Did the carpenter decide to have multiple
  stories? What will the layouts look like?
• Will there be special light fixtures, furniture,
  or other features of the home. You as the
  designer will decide this. How detailed you get
  is up to you! Remember Dr. Evil is a crazy
  mathematician when you prepare the presentation.

Landscapers Role

• You will need to create a landscape overview for
  the yard surrounding the rectangular or square
  pyramid.
• You need to incorporate at least 50 linear feet
  of sidewalk.
• You will need to calculate the square yards of
  concrete needed to complete your sidewalks.
• You may choose to do your work in landscape
  pavers.
• Remember you are designing your yard for a crazy
  mathematician.
• Geometry designs may be a plus.
• Select plants/trees/and scrubs that create a low
  maintenance environment.
• You will also need to create a deck on the
  outside of the house. You will need it to be at
  least 250 square feet. Make sure to calculate the
  cost of lumber and sealant. Make sure to include
  your expenses with your groups final bid.

Conclusion
Now that your team has worked together to
accomplish their plan. You will present your
presentation to Dr. Evil. It will depend on the
accuracy of your figures and the ascetics of the
design that will help Dr. Evil make his decision.
He maybe willing to pay more for unique features
in his home. I hope he selects your plan. Good
