Better Promises 81-6

Better Sacrifice (vs. 3-4)

• Offered by our Heavenly High Priest
• Sinless Sacrifice
• 1 Pet 222, He committed no sin, and no deceit
  was found in his mouth."
• I Jn 35, But you know that he appeared so that
  he might take away our sins. And in him is no
  sin.
• The better sacrifice completely atones for sin.

Better Mediator (v.5-6)

• Christ mediates for us in the temple that the
  earthly temple was only a type and shadow.
• Our mediator is none other than the eternal Son
  of God.

Better Plans (7-10)

• Confirmed through a New Covenant
• The New Covenant replaces the old faulty
  covenant.
• Faulty because of mans inability to keep it.
• Rom 310-12, As it is written There is no one
  righteous, not even one there is no one who
  understands, no one who seeks God. All have
  turned away, they have together become worthless
  there is no one who does good, not even one.
• Rom 623, For the wages of sin is death, but the
  gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
  Lord.

This Plan Changes Us

• Changes us from the inside-out
• Heb 810, This is the covenant I will make with
  the house of Israel after that time, declares the
  Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write
  them on their hearts. I will be their God, and
  they will be my people.
• By recreating us, He changes the desires of our
  heart and mind.

Better Plan- New Birth

• The old man dies and a new one is born.
• 2 Cor 517, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,
  he is a new creation the old has gone, the new
  has come!
• The new is renewed in the image of Christ.
• 2 Cor 416, Therefore we do not lose heart.
  Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet
  inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
• The ultimate goal is that we become like Jesus.

Better Plan- New Relationship

• Heb 810b, I will be their God, and they will be
  my people.
• Rom 926, and, "It will happen that in the very
  place where it was said to them, 'You are not my
  people,' they will be called 'sons of the living
  God.'
• Titus 214, who gave himself for us to redeem us
  from all wickedness and to purify for himself a
  people that are his very own, eager to do what is
  good.
• 1 Pet 29, But you are a chosen people, a royal
  priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to
  God, that you may declare the praises of him who
  called you out of darkness into his wonderful
  light.

Better Performance (11-13)

• Because of personal knowledge
• Heb 811, No longer will a man teach his
  neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the
  Lord,' because they will all know me, from the
  least of them to the greatest.
• It is not a second-hand knowledge imparted by
  others, but a personal knowledge that comes from
  a relationship with God.
• I Jn 520, We know also that the Son of God has
  come and has given us understanding, so that we
  may know him who is true

Better Performance

• Complete forgiveness
• Heb 812-13, For I will forgive their wickedness
  and will remember their sins no more. By calling
  this covenant "new," he has made the first one
  obsolete and what is obsolete and aging will
  soon disappear.
• This relationship is based in the mercy and
  forgiveness of God.

Complete Forgiveness

• Eph 17, In him we have redemption through his
  blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance
  with the riches of God's grace
• Col 114, in whom we have redemption, the
  forgiveness of sins.
• I Jn 17, But if we walk in the light, as he is
  in the light, we have fellowship with one
  another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son,
  purifies us from all sin.
• I Jn 19, If we confess our sins, he is faithful
  and just and will forgive us our sins and purify
  us from all unrighteousness.
• I Jn 22, He is the atoning sacrifice for our
  sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins
  of the whole world.
