• Validation of the design.
• Feedback on aspects the design did not specify
• The plans for building the robot
• The Bill of Materials for the parts to build the

• The projected cost of the robot

What is Mechanical Engineering? (ME)?

• Taking the design and making it real
• Where does the information come from?
• How long does it take?
• Identify what is practical to build
• Figure out the weaknesses in each design element
• Figure what parts will be needed
• CAD/CAM????

Engineering the robot base

• Look for hints in the design
• Review the rules
• SAFETY
• How strong/fast to make it?
• How heavy should the different parts be?
• How complicated to build/repair
