Swing Drive SMCS - 5459-015 5459-016
5459-010 Remove And Install Swing Drive
  • Start By
  • release oil pressure in main system
  • remove swing brake

Do not disconnect or remove any oil lines until
all oil pressure in main system has been released.

1. Remove six hydraulic tube assemblies (1).
2. Remove two bolts and block (2) that fasten the
parking brake cable to the housing. Disconnect
hose assembly (4) and tube assembly (3) from
bracket (5).
3. Disconnect hose assemblies (6) and (7).
Disconnect hose assemblies (8) from swing motor
(9). Remove the bolts and fasten a hoist to swing
motor (9). Remove the swing motor. The weight of
the swing motor is 45 Kg (100 lb.). Remove
bracket (5).
4. Remove four bolts (10) from each side of swing
drive (11).
5. Use tooling (A) and a hoist to remove swing
drive (11). The weight of the swing drive is 400
Kg (880 lb.). NOTE The following steps are for
the installation of the swing drive.

  • Use tooling (A) and a hoist to put the swing
    drive in position. Install four bolts (10) on
    each side of the swing drive. Tighten bolts (10)
    to a torque of 750 80 Nm (550 60 lb. ft.).
  • Remove tooling (A) from the swing drive. Install
    bracket (5) on swing drive. Tighten the bolts
    that have been removed with tooling (A) and the
    bolts for bracket (5) to a torque of 135 15 Nm
    (100 11 lb. ft.).
  • Use a hoist to install swing motor (9) on the
    swing drive housing. Install the four bolts to
    hold it.
  • Connect hose assemblies (8) to the swing motor.
    Connect hose assemblies (6) and (7) to the swing
    motor.
  • Connect hose assembly (4) and tube assembly (3)
    to bracket (5). Install two bolts and block (2)
    that fasten the parking brake cable to the
    housing.
  • Install six hydraulic tube assemblies (1).
  • Fill the swing motor with SAE 10W hydraulic oil.
  • NOTICE
  • Do not start the engine without the swing motor
    filled with oil.

End By a. install swing brake

1. Fasten a hoist and put the swing drive in
position on stand (A). The weight of the swing
drive is 408 kg (900 lb.).
  1. Remove the six bolts from bearing cage (1).
  2. Install two 1/2" - 13 NC forcing screws and
    remove bearing cage and shims (2).

4. Install tooling (B) and remove the bearing
cup. Remove O-ring seal (3) and lip-type seal
from the cage.
5. Remove the bolts from the cover. Install two
1/2" - 13 NC forcing screws (4) and loosen
cover (5) from case.

6. Install a 1/2" - 13 NC forged eyebolt and a
3/8" - 16 NC forged eyebolt in the cover. Fasten
a hoist and remove cover (5). The weight of the
cover is 73 kg (160 lb.). Remove the oil from the
case.
7. Install tooling (C) and remove the bearing cup
from cover. Remove bearing cup (6) with a hammer
and punch.
8. Remove the eight bolts (7).
9. Fasten a hoist to gear (9). Lift the output
shaft until gear (8) can be removed. Remove the
gear. Remove the output shaft from the case. The
weight of the output shaft is 159 kg (350 lb.).
  1. Install tooling (D) and remove the bearing cone
    from gear (8).
  2. Install tooling (E) and remove bearing cone (10)
    from the gear.

12. Remove gear (11), coupling (12) and pinion
(13) from the case.
13. Install tooling (E) and remove the bearing
cones for gear (11) and pinion (13).
  1. Install tooling (C) and remove the bearing cup
    from the case.
  2. Remove cages (14) and the shims from the case.

16. Install tooling (C) and remove the bearing
cups from the cages. Remove O-ring seals (15).

  1. Fasten a hoist to the output shaft and put it in
    position on stand (F). Use chains to hold output
    shaft in place.
  2. Loosen the bolt in the end of the shaft.
  1. Turn the output shaft 180 on stand (F). Use
    chains to hold the output shaft in place.
  2. Loosen the bolt in the end of the shaft.
  3. Fasten a hoist to the output shaft and remove it
    from stand (F).

22. Remove the bolt, retainer (16), and shims
(17).
23. Remove gear (18) and spacer (19) from the
shaft.

24. Remove the bolt, retainer, and O-ring seal
from end of shaft.
25. Install tooling (G) and remove the pinion.
26. Remove retainer (21). Remove the O-ring seal
from the retainer.
27. Remove the Duo-Cone seal (20) with tool (H).
28. Remove retainer (23). Remove O-ring seal (22)
from the retainer.

29. Install tooling (I) and push the shaft out of
the bearing cone. Remove bearing cone (24).
30. Remove shaft (26) from cartridge (25).
31. Install tooling (J) and remove the bearing
cone from the shaft.
32. Remove bearing cups (27) from the cartridge.
Assemble Swing Drive

1. Heat bearing cone (28) in oil to a maximum
temperature of 135 C (275 F). Start the bearing
cone on shaft (26). NOTE The bearing cone will
be pushed into correct position when the pinion
is installed.
2. Install the O-ring seal on retainer (23).
Install the Duo-Cone seal in retainers (23) and
(21) with tool (A). NOTE The rubber seals and
all surfaces that make contact with the seals
must be clean and dry. After installation of the
seals, put oil on the contact surfaces of the
metal seals. See the topic, "Assembly And
Installation of Conventional Duo-Cone Seals" in
this book.

3. Put retainer (23) in position on the shaft.
4. Install the O-ring seal in retainer (21). Put
the retainer in position on the shaft.
5. Put 2P2506 Anti-Seize Compound on the shaft
and pinion splines. Put pinion (29) in position
on end of shaft. Install tooling (B) and retainer
(30). Push the pinion and bearing cone into
position on the shaft with a force of 265 90 kN
(30 10 ton). NOTE The pinion and bearing cone
are in correct position when the retainer is
against the end of the shaft.
6. Lower the temperature of the two bearing cups.
Install bearing cups (27) in cartridge (25).
Fasten a hoist to the cartridge. Lower the
cartridge into position on the shaft.
7. Heat bearing cone (24) in oil to a maximum
temperature of 135 C (275 F). Put the bearing
cone in position on the shaft.

8. Install spacer (19) on the shaft.
9. Put the gear in position on the shaft. Put two
lengths of solder (31) having a diameter of 1.50
mm (.059 in.) on the end of the shaft. Install
the bolt and retainer. Tighten the bolt to a
torque of 135 Nm (100 lb.ft.). Remove the bolt
and retainer. Measure the thickness of the
solder. Install shims that are the same thickness
as the average thickness of the solder minus 0.10
to 0.18 mm (.004 to .007 in.). Install the bolt
and retainer.
  1. Fasten a hoist to the output shaft. Put the shaft
    in position on tool (C). Use chains to hold shaft
    in place.
  2. Install the O-ring seal, retainer and bolt in end
    of shaft for the pinion. Tighten the bolt to a
    torque of 1600 160 Nm (1200 120 lb.ft.).

12. Turn the shaft 180 on the stand. Tighten the
bolt in the end of the shaft to a torque of 1600
160 Nm (1200 120 lb.ft.).

  1. Fasten a hoist to the swing drive case. Put case
    in position on tool (D). The weight of the case
    is 73 kg (160 lb.).
  2. Fasten a hoist to the output shaft and remove it
    from tool (C). Put the shaft in position in the
    case. Install two bolts. Make five revolutions of
    the shaft. The shaft must turn freely at a torque
    of 17 4 Nm (13 3 lb.ft.). Make an adjustment
    to the thickness of the shims if the torque is
    not correct. Remove shaft from case.
  • Lower the temperature of the bearing cups for
    cages (14). Install the cups in the cages.
  • Install the cages without shims and O-ring seals
    in the case. Install two bolts in each cage.
  • NOTE Do not tighten the bolts. The cages are
    installed at this time to keep the pinion and
    gear in position.

17. Lower the temperature of the bearing cup
(32). Install the cup in the case.
18. Heat bearing cones (33) in oil to a maximum
temperature of 135 C (275 F). Install the cones
on pinion (13).

19. Put pinion (13) in position in the bearing
cage. Put coupling (12) in position on the pinion.
20. Heat bearing cones (34) and (35) in oil to a
maximum temperature of 135 C (275 F). Install
the cones on gear (11).
21. Put gear (11) into position in the bearing
cage.
  1. Heat bearing cones (10) and (36) in oil to a
    maximum temperature of 135C (275F). Install
    cones on gear (8).
  2. Clean the old gasket material from the contact
    surfaces of the cartridge and case. Put 7M7260
    Liquid Gasket on the surfaces.

24. Install two 5/8" 11 NC guide pins (37) in the
cartridge. Fasten a hoist to output shaft gear
(18).
  1. Lower the output shaft into the case until gear
    (8) can be installed. Install the gear. Lower the
    output shaft into position on the case.
  2. Remove the two guide pins from the cartridge.
    Install the bolts that hold the cartridge in
    place. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 270 25
    Nm (200 18 lb.ft.).
  1. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (6).
    Install the cups in the cover.
  2. Clean the old gasket material from the contact
    surfaces of the cover and case. Put 7M7260 Liquid
    Gasket Material on the surfaces.

29. Install a 1/2" - 13 NC forged eyebolt and a
3/8" - 16 NC forged eyebolt in the cover. Fasten
a hoist and put cover (5) in position on the
case. Install the bolts that hold the cover to
the case. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 135
15 Nm (100 11 lb.ft.).

30. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (38).
Install the cup in the bearing cage. Install the
lip type seal with the lip of the seal toward the
top of the cage with tooling (E). Put oil on the
lip of the seal.
31. Put the cage in position on the cover without
shims and O-ring seal. Install two bolts 180
apart. Turn the gear (8) while the bolts are
tightened evenly to a torque of 1.1 Nm (10
lb.in.). Measure the gap between the cage and
cover at the two bolt locations with feeler gauge
(39).
  1. Install shims that are the same thickness as the
    average gap measured plus 0.00 to 0.08 mm (.000
    to .003 in.). Install the O-ring seal on the
    cage. Put the cage in position on the cover.
    Install bolts (40) and tighten them to a torque
    of 135 15 Nm (100 11 lb.ft.).
  2. Fasten a hoist and turn the swing drive over on
    tool (D).
  3. Remove one of the bearing cages.

35. Turn the output shaft while the bolts in cage
(41) are tightened evenly to a torque of 1.1 Nm
(10 lb.in.). Measure the gap between the cage and
case at the two bolt locations with feeler gauge.
36. Install shims (42) that are the same
thickness as the average gap measured plus 0.00
to 0.08 mm (.000 to .003 in.). Install the O-ring
seal on the cage. Put the cage in position on the
case. Install the bolts and tighten them to a
torque of 135 15 Nm (100 11 lb.ft.).
37. Install cage (43) without shims and O-ring
seal. Install two bolts 180 apart. Turn the
output shaft while the bolts are tightened evenly
to a torque of 1.1 Nm (10 lb.in.). Measure the
gap between the cage and case at the two bolt
locations with a feeler gauge.
  • Install shims (44) that are the same thickness as
    the average gap measured plug 0.00 to 0.08 mm
    (.000 to .003 in.). Install the O-ring seal on
    the cage. Put the cage in position on the case.
    Install the bolts and tighten to a torque of 135
    15 Nm (100 11 lb.ft.).
  • Make five revolutions of the output shaft. The
    shaft must turn freely at a torque of 27 5 Nm
    (20 4 lb.ft.). Make an adjustment to the
    thickness of shims at the pinion or gears if the
    torque is not correct.
  • Fasten a hoist and remove the swing drive from
    tool (D). After the swing drive has been
    installed, fill the swing drive with oil to the
    correct level. See the Maintenance Manual.

Swivel Group SMCS - 5060-010 5060-017 Remove And
Install Swivel Group
  • Remove two bolts (2) from bar (4).
  • Disconnect oil lines (1) and (3) from the swivel
    group.
  • NOTE Put identification on all oil lines and
    hoses. Put caps or plugs on the lines and hoses
    to keep out foreign material.
  1. Disconnect hoses (6) and (7) from each side of
    the swivel group.
  2. Disconnect oil drain line (8) and pilot oil line
    (5) for the parking brake.

  • Put a floor jack in position under the swivel
    group.
  • Remove eight bolts (9) that hold swivel group to
    the frame.
  • Lower swivel group (10) and remove it from under
    the machine. Weight of the swivel group is 68 kg
    (150 lb.).
  • NOTE The following steps are for the
    installation of the swivel group.
  • Put swivel group (10) in position on the frame
    with a floor jack. Install the eight bolts (9)
    that hold it.
  • Connect oil drain line (8) and pilot oil line (5)
    for the parking brake to the swivel group.
  • Connect hydraulic hoses (6) and (7) to each side
    of the swivel group.
  • Connect four hoses (1) to each side of the swivel
    group. Connect lines (3) to top of swivel group.
  • Install two bolts (2) in bar (4).
  • Disassemble And Assemble Swivel Group
  • Start By
  • a. remove swivel group

1. Remove eight bolts (2), then remove manifold
(1). Remove O-ring seal from under manifold. Make
a replacement if necessary.
2. Remove three screws (3) and remove retainer
(4).
3. Put swivel group in position on a press and
remove rotor (5).
4. Remove seven outer seals (6) and seven inner
seals if they are damaged.

  • Remove seal (8) and washer (7) from the rotor.
  • NOTE The following steps are for the assembly of
    the swivel group.
  • Install washer (7) and seal (8) on the rotor.
  • Install seven inner seals and seven outer seals
    (6) if they were removed at disassembly.
  1. Install rotor (5) in swivel housing with a press.
  2. Install retainer (4) on rotor with the three
    screws that hold it.

10. Install a new O-ring seal (9) on manifold.
Install manifold (1) on swivel housing with the
eight bolts that hold it. End By a. install
swivel group

Pilot System Pump SMCS - 5073-010
5073-017 Remove And Install Pilot System Pump 1.
Drain the oil from the hydraulic tank.
2. Disconnect hose assemblies (1) and (3) from
pilot system pump (2).
  • Remove two bolts (4). Remove pilot system pump
    (2).
  • NOTE The following steps are for the
    installation of the pilot system pump.
  • NOTE Be sure that the o-ring seal is in position
    on the pilot system pump.
  • Put pilot system pump (2) in position on the pump
    drive. Install two bolts (4).

  1. Connect hose assemblies (1) and (3) to the pump.
  2. Fill the hydraulic tank to the correct level.

Disassemble And Assemble Pilot System Pump
Start By a. remove pilot system pump NOTE Put
identification marks on pump parts for assembly
purposes.
1. Remove eight bolts (2) that hold flange (1) to
body (3) and remove the head from the body.
2. Remove o-ring seal (4) from the flange. Remove
lip seal (5), the spacer and lip seal from the
flange.
3. Remove ring retainer (6), o-ring (8), back-up
ring (9), and isolation plate (7) from the body.

4. Lift drive gear (11) to dislodge pressure
plate (10) from the body. Remove pressure plate
(10) from the body.
5. Remove drive gear (11) and idler gear (12)
from the pump body.
6. Place the thumb of each hand in holes in
bottom pressure plate (13) and lift out of body
(3). NOTE Use extreme care in the removal of
this plate. Do not pry or force plate from the
body.
7. Remove o-ring seal (16), back-up ring (17),
retainer ring (15) and isolation plate (14) from
the body.

  • If necessary, remove bearings (18) from body (3).
  • NOTE The following steps are for the assembly of
    the pilot pump.
  • Thoroughly clean all pump parts.
  • NOTE See Diagnosing Tyrone Gear Pump Failures,
    Form No. FEG45137.
  • Install bearings (18) in body (3) with tooling
    (A) if necessary.
  • Coat the inside of the pump body with clean
    hydraulic oil.
  • Install isolation plate (14) with the chamfered
    side down in the bore of body (3).
  • Put retainer ring (15) in place on the opposite
    side of the bores from the isolation plate.
  • Put back-up ring (17) in position around the
    bores as shown.
  • Install o-ring seal (16) against the back-up ring
    insuring that it seats itself in the groove in
    the edge of the back-up ring.
  • Install pressure plate (13) with the bronze side
    facing the gears and the rounded trap slot facing
    the discharge side. Keep the plate as level as
    possible and slide it into position in the bottom
    of the body.
  • NOTE Do not force the plate.
  • Install drive gear (11) and idler gear (12) in
    the pump body. Be sure to install the drive gear
    in the proper bore.
  • NOTE Do not drop the gears into place. Dropping
    the gears will damage the bronze pressure plate.
  • Install pressure plate (10) with the bronze side
    facing the gears and the rounded trap slot facing
    the discharge side.
  • Put isolation plate (7) in position on top of the
    pressure plate. Install retainer ring (6) and
    back- up ring (9).
  • Install o-ring seal (8) against back-up ring (9)
    insuring that it is seated in the groove in the
    edge of the back-up ring.
  • Use tooling (A) to install lip seals (5) in
    flange (1). Install a seal, spacer and a seal.
    The seals must be installed with the lips facing
    the gear.
  • Install the o-ring seal in the groove in flange
    (1). Use petroleum jelly to hold it in place.

Double Pump (Bent-Axis Piston) SMCS - 5070-016
5070-010 5070-015 Remove And Install Double Pump
(Bent-Axis Piston)
1. Drain the oil from the hydraulic tank.
  • Disconnect two hose assemblies from pilot system
    pump (1). Remove two bolts and remove pilot
    system pump (1).
  • Remove four bolts and loosen a hose clamp to
    remove tube assembly (2) from the double pump.
  • Disconnect hose assemblies (3), (4) and (5) from
    the double pump.
  • NOTE Put identification on all hoses and lines.
    Put caps or plugs on the hoses and lines to keep
    out foreign material.

5. Remove the bolts and shield (7). Disconnect
the clamp holding cable (6) and move the cable
out of the way.
6. Remove the bolts and remove brackets (8) and
(9).
7. Remove four bolts and remove bracket (10).
8. Fasten tool (B) to double pump (11). Position
a lift truck directly under double pump (11) as
shown. Fasten one end of tool (A) to tool (B) and
the other end to the lift truck. Remove the bolts
that fasten the double pump to the flywheel
housing and use tool (A) and the lift truck to
slowly remove the double pump from the machine.
The weight of the double pump is 125 Kg (275 lb.).
