Background
  • Born January 1st, 1864 in Hoboken, New Jersey
  • Best known for making photography an acceptable
    form of art
  • His photographs were made to look like paintings
  • Went through many failed marriages
  • Had Hypochondria- He believed he was suffering
    from various major disorders

Many Marriages
  • Infatuated with younger women
  • In 1893 he married Emmeline Obermeyer. They
    divorced in 1918 when Emmeline came home to
    Alfred photographing former artist Georgia
    OKeeffe.
  • Alfred and Georgia married in 1903 but separated
    in 1930.
  • After the separation Alfred started taking nude
    pictures of Dorothy Norman. This literally made
    Georgia OKeeffe jealous and improved her
    relationship with Alfred.

  • As stated before, Alfreds specialty was in
    making his photographs look like paintings as
    depicted by this picture.

Georgia OKeeffe
  • Alfred also took pictures of his various lovers
    and wives. This particular image is of Georiga
    OKeeffe who he married and then separated from
    after his heart condition worsened.

  • Alfred was also well known for his skill with
    making everyday pictures seem planned. His skill
    is depicted in this picture where he literally
    looked out his window and snapped. The blurred
    vision gives it a sense of realism.

  • Alfred died on July 13, 1946 at the age of 82
    because of heart disease. He is still remembered
    to this day as the pioneer of photography and is
    still compared to great photographers today.
