Introduction
  • Purpose
  • to describe the CUSPIS Cultural Asset Fruition
(CAF) demonstrator that will developed in the 3rd
    phase of the project.
  • to present the environment in which the trials
    will be conducted (Athens, Greece).
  • to design the wider CAF architecture considering
the existing technologies and identified needs.
  • Main objective
  • to prove that Galileo based infrastructure,
integrated with other key technologies, can
establish an overall reference scheme that can
boost the Fruition of Cultural Assets.

Assesment of the CUSPIS CAF applications (1/2)
  • Previous work demonstrated that there are key
aspects of the user needs, characteristics and
    requirements
  • Galileo enablers/differentiators
  • Improved accuracy through the GALILEO receiver
  • Improved availability in challenging urban
    environments (urban canyons)
  • Indoor availability
  • Altitude accuracy will be examined among PoIs
that share the same longitude and latitude
  • Authentication of CAs
  • Cooperation of Galileo with GPS and other
    positioning methods (hybridization)
  • Target Market Segment Mobile users who travel
for various purposes (tourism, business, etc.)
  • Multi-lingual support
  • Travel-centric Use of Service Pre-Travel,
    On-Travel, After-Travel
  • Cultural Traveler User Scenarios The service
specification should be based on specific user
    scenarios

7
Assesment of the CUSPIS CAF applications (2/2)
  • Content non-cultural content should also be
    delivered
  • Emergency, Local Authorities, Entertainment,
    Banks, Exchange houses, Transportation, Shopping
  • Content Presentation
  • Different levels of detail
  • Should be based on multimedia
  • Service Performance Terminal types, network
    performance (e.g. GPRS/UMTS), content format
    (video, picture, text), etc.
  • Interactive Service Philosophy simple and
    efficient interaction mechanisms
  • Positioning The positioning accuracy and
availability should be taken into account
especially indoors, in order to properly adapt
the information that will be provided to the user
  • Privacy privacy issues, which the system should
be able to maintain and guarantee
  • Pricing Scheme
  • User awareness of the charging schemes
  • The applied pricing should fit the user
understanding based on pricing schemes applied
    to similar types of services
  • Complex pricing schemes may deter users from
    using the service

  • SERVICE DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL
  • DATA REQUIREMENTS
  • FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • QUALITY OF SERVICE

10
Cultural Asset Fruition system idea description
  • This application targets
  • the Tourists
  • Cultural and Tourism Organizations
  • Many services could be enhanced by the satellite
location, time and velocity information provided
by Galileo, in order to offer
  • Accurate Positioning, Optimized Routing, Visits
    planning, Tourist guiding
  • Various similar applications have been already
    developed
  • Issues to be improved with Galileo
  • Discontinuity of monitoring
  • Lack of indoor positioning
  • Altitude accuracy
  • Integration of several technologies for
positioning (GNSS, RFID, etc) and for
    communication (3G etc)
  • CAs authentication
  • To add to the CAs a 4th dimension using Galileo
    timestamp time

User Scenarios
  • Pre-Travel Scenario
  • Step 1 Registration
  • Step 2 Selection
  • Step 3 Cultural content presentation
  • Step 4 PoI selection
  • On-Travel Scenario
  • Step 1 Accessing the service
  • Step 2 Positioning
  • Step 3 Cultural content presentation
  • Step 4 Selecting a PoI
  • Step 5 Receiving relevant content
  • After-Travel Scenario

13
Service Distribution Channels (1/4)
  • CAF - Internet Based Application
  • Wireless networks
  • Commercially Available Wireless Networks (e.g.
    GPRS/UMTS/WLAN)
  • Complentary info will be pushed through (SMS,
    MMS)
  • Future Available Networks (WiMAX, HSDPA)
  • Wired Networks (e.g. LAN, DSL, etc.)
  • Apllicable for pre-travel and after-travel
    scenarios

14

DATA REQUIREMENTS (1/4)
  • Content Forms
  • Text / Rich Text
  • Photo material by qualified photographers,
experienced on the cultural assets and civil
    scene photography.
  • Maps Dynamically created active maps.
    Integration with GIS.
  • GIS
  • Provides dynamic geographical maps of a requested
    area
  • Combines layers of information about a place.
Presents points of interests (layers) on the map
  • Enables
  • Proximity searches and neighboring searches
  • Distance calculation
  • Multi-modal routing (calculation of optimised
    routes)
  • Map rendering for mobile Devices

18
DATA REQUIREMENTS (2/4)
  • 3D Images Integrate 3D images and
reconstructions of cultural assets with the
    Galileo timestamp.
  • To add to the cultural assets published by CUSPIS
    CAF a 4th dimension time
  • Video / Sound
  • Users might be concerned of the high price that
video and audio may impose and also of the
    available bandwidth
  • Although sound and video streams will not be
included in the initial form of the service, all
the means for inclusion of such content in future
versions of CUSPIS CAF will be provided
  • The migration of the service to 3G networks may
render attractive the provision of video and
sound streams to the end user

19
DATA REQUIREMENTS (3/4)
  • Ontologies
  • Our goal is to hierarchically structure the
    cultural information
  • Initially, we will do that based on some
    predefined categories
  • The advantages of the application of ontologies
    in the CH sector are
  • Great flexibility in cultural information objects
    utilization
  • Ease, intelligent and intuitive search and
    updates of cultural information
  • Adaptation and Customization to needs of users
  • Facilitation of learning
  • Better communication and cooperation
    (interoperabilty) among institutions and among
    systems

20
DATA REQUIREMENTS (4/4) - Centrica
  • Digital Rights Management
  • Digital Rights Management Systems (DRMs) are
technologies that describe and identify digital
    content protected by intellectual property
rights, and enforce usage rules set by
right-holders or prescribed by law for digital
content. DRMs are thus an important complement to
    the legal framework.
  • Within the frames of the CUSPIS CAF demonstrator
Centricas XLPhoto will be used. XLphoto is a
unique server solution for the Digital Asset
Management and Digital Right Management of image
    archives.
  • XLphoto incorporates several unique features
    available in a web environment
  • integrates a sophisticated DRM (Digital Right
    Management) for IPR protection
  • enables users to zoom images with CENTRICA's
    Image serving technology
  • centrally stores images in a single file per
    image and their metadata
  • automatically search the Web and reports when it
finds watermarked images for IPR enforcement

21
QoS issues (1/2)
  • Network Coverage
  • Mobility of the user
  • Display capabilities
  • Underlying network (throughput, delay)
  • Content availability-quality-format
  • text/rich text
  • Photos
  • Maps
  • 3D images
  • Videos
