Biography of faith ringgold

• Born october 8,1930
• Grew up in harlem
• the daughter of city truck driver Louis Jones and
  Will i Posey Jones, a dress designer
• Married twice with two daughters
• In the 1960s she began to make overtly political
  paintings
• Painted about black men living within a white
  american culture
• 1970s she completeed a series of slave raping
  inspired paintings
• Later she made a series of narrative quilts, in
  appreciation of traditional women's handiwork
• Always politicaly involved in both black and
  feminst movement in the late 1960s
• Towards the end of her work she received many
  awards for her art

Faiths philosophy

• Faith Ringgold was a strong supporter of civil
  rights, this is even apparent in her art. She
  belives in self, self-love,self-preservation and
  self-liberation. She is also a very brave woman
  who daringly challlenged the status quo of what
  women ought to paint by painting politically
  controversial images.
