Objective

• Students will learn about the Underground
  Railroad and how New York was a part of it.
  Student will read two books and create a quilt
  patch of their homes.

Outcome

• All of the students quilt patches will be taped
  together and hung in the hallway to symbolize
• A Safe Route to Freedom

• A map of the real underground railroad route
  passing through Rochester.

• The two books
• Construction Paper
• Markers
• Glue
• Other material to decorate quilt patches

Directions

• Have each student create a quilt patch of their
  home. The patches will then be glued together.
  The quilt will serve as a map for runaway slaves
  to use to find safe houses.
