The Value of InformationThe Purpose of Research
Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking
and prying with a purpose. (Zora Neale Hurston)
  • Not having the information you need when you
need it leaves you wanting. Not knowing where to
look for that information leaves you powerless.
In a society where information is king, none of
    us can afford that.
  • (Lois Horrowitz)

If we knew what it was we were doing, it would
not be called research, would it? (Albert
Einstein)
3
Workshop Goals
  • Reintroduce the Research Process
  • Fundamental steps and search strategy tips
  • Searching Beyond the Obvious
  • Multiple databases for multidisciplinary topics
  • Internet Archive
  • Uncovering the hidden literature Shades of
    grey (GL10, 2008)

9
Search Strategy Tips
  • Nesting ( ) keep related terms together
