  • Instruction for these content areas will be in
    homeroom
  • Spelling pretest will be on Thursday and weekly
    test will be the following Thursday

Basic School Information
  • Signing in at the office you must sign in at the
    office and get a visitor sticker
  • School begins at 800. Students are tardy if
    they are not inside the classroom door!
  • Students who are tardy often struggle to get on
    schedule the rest of the day

Dismissal
  • Pick up for 5th grade students will be on the
    south side of the school on Regency Drive
  • Please do not cross in the middle of the street
  • Pull up to the curb and allow your child to
    safely enter your vehicle
  • Rainy Days 5th grade students will be dismissed
    on the 1st grade ramp

Basic School Information
  • Please call or send a note to the office if
    student is absent
  • Students miss important learning experiences that
    cannot be recaptured
  • Please vary times of appointments so that the
    student does not miss same subject each time

  • Lunch When a student has an adult visitor,
    please sit at a round table reserved for guests
  • Birthdays District policy prevents us from
    celebrating with treats no party invitations
    passed out school
  • Dress Code / Hygiene Watch the length of shorts
    and skirts encourage daily baths and deodorant

Expectations(as written by the entire 5th Grade
class)
  • Trustworthiness is being honest, dependable, and
    keeping your promises.
  • Caring is being nice, thoughtful, and helping
    others.
  • Responsibility is doing your own work, keeping up
    with your possessions, and admitting your
    mistakes.
  • Fairness is including everyone, being honest, and
    following the rules.
  • Respect is treating others the way that you want
    to be treated, looking people in the eye, and
    using manners to be polite.
  • Citizenship is showing that you care for your
    community by using all of the virtues daily.

School Work
  • Projects Students will have printed instructions
    with a parent signature required
  • Extra Credit is available to all children at
    various times. It is not given on an individual
    basis

Homework
  • Homework is due at the beginning of the day.
    Parents are not responsible for bringing homework
    to school
  • 5th Graders should have an average of 60 minutes
    of homework each day. If your child is spending
    more, then draw a line and initial. The work
    will be graded based on the correct amount of
    completed work

Extra Curricular Activities
  • 5th grade students have the opportunity to
    participate in Choir
  • Choir performances take place on- and off-campus
    throughout the school year
  • In accordance with State and District policies,
    students must maintain passing grades and E/S in
    conduct to participate

TEKS Checks
  • District generated tests to monitor progress
  • Designed to help identify students in need of
    intervention or remediation, especially in TAKS
    subject areas
  • Last TEKS Check will be the RELEASED TAKS TEST.
    Please do not use this test to practice with your
    child

TAKS
  • For promotion to 6th Grade, students must pass
    Reading and Math TAKS
  • 3 chances to pass
  • Science TAKS tests all elementary science
    knowledge and skills
  • Tutorials will address content specific
    objectives and will be available for those
    individuals who need specific remediation

  • April 7, 2009 Math
  • April 30, 2009 Science

Field Trips
Implementation of new cost schedules and
rules regarding the use of district busses and
bus drivers have necessitated that we look into
other options for these trips. As soon as we
have these scheduled we will send home
information.

  • Family Access is the online

  • information, and reminders
  • Please join PTA!

Parent Conferences
  • A conference will be scheduled with each parent
    or guardian by the end of 1st semester
  • Look for information coming home soon

  • Is inquisitive

  • Requires care, patience, and consistency
