Academic Excellence
  • Academic achievement in all educational endeavors
is the philosophy that is the foundation of
    NSBEs Academic Excellence Programs.
  • Academic Excellence programs were created to
develop a strategic academic support network for
    all pre-college, undergraduate, and graduate
students pursuing degrees in applied science,
    mathematics, engineering, and technology fields.

13
Academic Excellence
  • NSBE is constantly researching, developing, and
    implementing innovative programs, workshops, and
seminars that provide the skills, development,
and resource access needed for its members to
    succeed in their college endeavors.

14
What is PCI?
  • The Pre-College Initiative is the program which
focuses specifically on engaging and sustaining
the interest of pre-college students in science,
    technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
  • The program provides academic, technical, and
leadership development in preparation for college
    and their careers

15
PCI Mission
  • The NSBE PCI program will lead the world in
    enhancing the pre-college students Academic,
Technical, and Leadership skills in order to
    maximize their opportunities in life.

16
PCI Vision
  • The Pre-College Initiative program was designed
to increase the level of consciousness of
    African-American youth, encourage their
attendance of college, and their pursuit of both
studies and careers in Engineering, Science, and
Mathematics. The vision is to establish PCI as
an incubator for our youth, where they can be
nurtured and guided in their academic careers.

17
PCI vs. NSBE Jr.
  • PCI is the actual outreach program that works to
    develop pre-college students
  • NSBE Jr. is the membership and chapter
    designation for pre-college students

18
NSBE Programming
  • Staple Programs Standard yearly provided
programs that continue to develop the competency
    and ability of our members
  • Signature Programs Umbrella and direct impact
programs that align us with the mission and
    directives of the organization

NSBEpreneur
  • NSBEpreneur is a subset of Entrepreneurship
    programming which consists of NSBEpreneur,
    Business Diversity, and Supplier Diversity.
  • The objective of NSBEpreneur is to train and
    certify entrepreneurs in NSBE.

22
Technical Outreach and Community Help (TORCH)
  • The T.O.R.C.H. programs goal is to increase the
number of currently underserved communities that
have access to technology and technical
assistance, and desire to increase the technical
skills of its community population. TORCH is the
umbrella program for A Walk for Education (AWFE).

23
Technical Outreach and Community Help (TORCH)
  • T.O.R.C.H. Community Service Initiative was
launched to encourage community service among our
membership and communities that are underserved
    with regards to digital technology.
  • NSBE members will perform volunteer community
service in local partner computer technology
centers by providing technical assistance to
    pre-college youth and adults.

24
Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
  • SIGs are groups within NSBE of technical
professionals and graduate students with common
interest in a particular field (analogous to
    technical societies in other engineering
organizations). The objective of SIGs is to
develop and implement technical projects, as well
as to develop solutions to problems/issues in a
    particular field of engineering.

25
A Walk for Education
  • Goal is to increase awareness of the
    opportunities available through education
particularly in the STEM fields and to shatter
myths about African-Americans in math, science,
    engineering and other technologies.

26
A Walk for Education
  • Volunteers will walk door-to-door in a
    predominantly underrepresented minority
    communities distributing information about area
college admissions, area vocational schools, GED,
SAT/ACT, NSBE Resources, and financial aid.

33
Increasing Minorities Attaining Graduate
Education (IMAGE)
  • A multi dimensional program to increase the
number of NSBE members going on to graduate
school and ensuring their success there.
  • Four major goals of IMAGE are
  • To provide support to graduating seniors applying
    to graduate school.
  • To provide financial support to students in
    graduate school.
  • To provide academic support to students in
    graduate school.
  • IMAGE will use it partnership with GEM to achieve
each of these goals. Through the GEM partnership
NSBE members will be given the opportunity to
    attend the GEM Annual Conference.

34
Academic Technical Bowl
  • The objective of the Academic Technical Bowl
(ATB) is to encourage and showcase Academic
Excellence and understanding of the fundamental
principles of engineering covered in the
    Fundamentals of Engineering (FE/EIT) Examination.

35
Academic Technical Bowl
  • Program participation occurs through healthy
competition in a Jeopardy! style game show
    format with multiple choice questions.

research projects that will lead to the pursuit
of graduate degrees in technical fields. The USTR
competition allows students to gain experience
    delivering technical presentations.

37
Undergraduate Students in Technical Research
(USTR)
  • Competition is held at the National Convention
