12Academic Excellence
- Academic achievement in all educational endeavors
is the philosophy that is the foundation of
NSBEs Academic Excellence Programs. - Academic Excellence programs were created to
develop a strategic academic support network for
all pre-college, undergraduate, and graduate
students pursuing degrees in applied science,
mathematics, engineering, and technology fields.
13Academic Excellence
- NSBE is constantly researching, developing, and
implementing innovative programs, workshops, and
seminars that provide the skills, development,
and resource access needed for its members to
succeed in their college endeavors.
14What is PCI?
- The Pre-College Initiative is the program which
focuses specifically on engaging and sustaining
the interest of pre-college students in science,
technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) - The program provides academic, technical, and
leadership development in preparation for college
and their careers
15PCI Mission
- The NSBE PCI program will lead the world in
enhancing the pre-college students Academic,
Technical, and Leadership skills in order to
maximize their opportunities in life.
16PCI Vision
- The Pre-College Initiative program was designed
to increase the level of consciousness of
African-American youth, encourage their
attendance of college, and their pursuit of both
studies and careers in Engineering, Science, and
Mathematics. The vision is to establish PCI as
an incubator for our youth, where they can be
nurtured and guided in their academic careers.
17PCI vs. NSBE Jr.
- PCI is the actual outreach program that works to
develop pre-college students - NSBE Jr. is the membership and chapter
designation for pre-college students
18NSBE Programming
- Staple Programs Standard yearly provided
programs that continue to develop the competency
and ability of our members - Signature Programs Umbrella and direct impact
programs that align us with the mission and
directives of the organization

21NSBEpreneur
- NSBEpreneur is a subset of Entrepreneurship
programming which consists of NSBEpreneur,
Business Diversity, and Supplier Diversity. - The objective of NSBEpreneur is to train and
certify entrepreneurs in NSBE.
22Technical Outreach and Community Help (TORCH)
- The T.O.R.C.H. programs goal is to increase the
number of currently underserved communities that
have access to technology and technical
assistance, and desire to increase the technical
skills of its community population. TORCH is the
umbrella program for A Walk for Education (AWFE).
23Technical Outreach and Community Help (TORCH)
- T.O.R.C.H. Community Service Initiative was
launched to encourage community service among our
membership and communities that are underserved
with regards to digital technology. - NSBE members will perform volunteer community
service in local partner computer technology
centers by providing technical assistance to
pre-college youth and adults.
24Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
- SIGs are groups within NSBE of technical
professionals and graduate students with common
interest in a particular field (analogous to
technical societies in other engineering
organizations). The objective of SIGs is to
develop and implement technical projects, as well
as to develop solutions to problems/issues in a
particular field of engineering.
25A Walk for Education
- Goal is to increase awareness of the
opportunities available through education
particularly in the STEM fields and to shatter
myths about African-Americans in math, science,
engineering and other technologies.
26A Walk for Education
- Volunteers will walk door-to-door in a
predominantly underrepresented minority
communities distributing information about area
college admissions, area vocational schools, GED,

competition in a Jeopardy! style game show
format with multiple choice questions. - Questions cover a wide variety of topics, from
NSBE and African American Scientists and
Inventors history to general engineering and
science curricula from the FE/EIT. - Teams of four members from a chapter first
compete on a regional level held at their Fall
Regional Conference - winning team from each region will compete for
the national title at the National Convention - Monetary Prizes!!!
36Undergraduate Students in Technical Research
(USTR)
- The objective of the Undergraduate Students in
Technical Research (USTR) program is to encourage
African Americans and other underrepresented
collegiate members to participate in technical
