- Faecal contamination from animals and humans
- Flies and other insects.

- A bacteria which releases a poisonous toxin (gas)

- Shigella is spread from person to person and then
to food by human contact. - Shigella is carried by infected people, flies and
infected water. If a person with shigella has
not washed their hands well they will transfer it
to others, even before they are aware of the
symptoms.
