Title: The Shipowners Club is a mutual protection and indemnity Association dedicated to providing the broa

1
SHIPOWNERS CLUB
The Shipowners Club is a mutual protection and
indemnity Association dedicated to providing the
broadest P I insurance to the owners of smaller
and specialised vessels at a competitive cost
2
FEATURES OF MUTUAL INSURANCE
A mutual Club is a non-profit making body, thus
Members benefit by receiving their insurance at
cost price Members of a mutual are insurers as
well as being insured by the Club. Therefore
they can exercise control over the extent of the
cover provided and the way the Club is run As the
Clubs sole purpose is to cover the liabilities
of shipowners, our activities are focussed
entirely on this specialised market. We are not
involved in any other types of insurance

4
ADVANTAGES OF A MUTUAL P I CLUB
Most importantly however, because a mutual is
non-profit making and functions to support its
Members, we are claims friendly. We will do
our utmost to assist our Member in minimising the
effects of claims made against them but
thereafter we promptly indemnify our Members
5
In the commercial insurance market the insurers
objective is to make a profit from the premium
charged. In a non-profit making Club there is no
divergence of interest between insured and
insurer. The Club and the Member stand together
to protect the Member against claims from third
parties
6
The objective of a Club is to expand its cover
where possible to meet the changing needs of its
membership, Club cover is continually evolving to
meet the ever changing liabilities that our
Members face Belonging to a mutual allows
Members to benefit from the bulk purchase of
reinsurance at rates which could not be obtained
by an individual shipowner
7
SHARING EXPOSURE
Membership of the Shipowners Club enables you to
share your liabilities with many other vessel
owners, thus minimising your individual risk It
makes sense to share your liabilities with others
who have a similar operation to your own. When
you join the Shipowners Club you can be
confident your fellow Members are of a similar
size and character
8
SHARING LIABILITIES
Shipowners is the only mutual P I Club
dedicated to the insurance of smaller regional

vessels produce a very different risk to that of
the deep sea vessel as shown by the examples
