South Korea
  • Priority Graphs

2
Threat of War
  • The threat any state poses to another (which may
lead to conflict, war, or nothing) is affected by
    many factors.
  • IFs conceptualizes the threat by a concrete term
    called militarized international dispute (MID).
  • Calculates threat from 2 directions
  • Data based - facts on historical threat levels by
    dyad.
  • Predictive - Evolution of key factors that have
been show to give rise to disputes.
  • Three factors seem to carry special weight in
determining the threats of disputes Contiguity,
whether or not countries are great powers, and
the existence or absence of territorial disputes
    between countries.

3
The threat of war with North Korea is of utmost
importance to South Korea.

GDP
  • GDP Gross Domestic Product
  • As capital rises, it increases value added and
GDP, increasing final demand and investment.
  • 2 ways to calculate
  • The Income Received Approach
  • GDP Domestic Income Wages Rents Interest
    Profits
  • The Expenditure Approach
  • GDP E C I G (X - Z)
  • where E Expenditure Total Spending on final
    goods and services
  • C Consumption Spending X Exports
  • I Investment Spending Z Imports
  • G Government Spending (X - Z) Net Exports

and N. Korea.
6
Democracy Level
  • The next graph is a comparison between the
democracy, or freedom, levels between the free S.
Korea and the communist N. Korea.
  • Dont be surprised.

Korea.

Nutrition
  • A healthy person keeps a balance between calories
    needed and calories taken in.
  • The population of a given country determines the
calorie need, which in comparison to calorie
    availability determines nutrition level among
    children.
  • Starvation increases mortality and decreases
    population.
  • Factors that lead to malnutrition could be
decreased yields as a result of drought or
famine, or decrease of food imports as a result
of capital flow restrictions in the economy.

9
To help show nutritional status here is a
comparison of calories needed and calories
available.
10
Production
  • The economic module represents supply, demand,
and trade in each of the 6 economic sectors.
  • Agriculture
  • Energy
  • Materials
  • Manufactures
  • Services
  • Technology
  • It is the balance of final production and final
demand that determines whether inventories (or
    stocks) grow or decline.

Crop Demand
  • Contains 3 components
  • Food demand (for population)
  • Feed demand (for livestock)
  • Industrial demand
  • Food demand depends on the population size and
    the consumption level per capita.
  • As GDP increase crop demand increases and thus
    calorie consumption increases.
