1Youth Employment Scheme

2In 2000 the Victorian State Government launched
the YES Program as an employment initiative to
provide 2,600 traineeships and in the public
sector over a 4-year period. In 2004 the YES
Program was extended for a further 4-years, to
provide an additional 2,600 traineeships. YES
is part of the Victorian Governments Jobs for
Victoria employment initiative.

3YES contributes the Victorian Governments goals
and targets for education by providing
opportunities for young people to successfully
complete Year 12 or higher qualifications. YES
assists schools to meet skill and employment
needs. It helps young people gain paid work
experience, training and qualifications leading
to sustainable employment. Since its inception,
DET has successfully placed over 700 YES
trainees in schools and TAFE Institutes.

5DET ALLOCATION 2005/07 In March 2006, DET was
allocated 368 traineeship positions to facilitate
the YES Program for the period 1 July 2005 to 30
