What are the options?

• VCE Victorian Certificate of Education
  offered at FHS
• VCAL Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning
  not offered at FHS but a pathway that can be
  explored through the counselling process
• VET Vocational Education Training offered at
  FHS as a component of the VCE

The language of VCE

• Unit - this is a semester (half year) of work.
  Each subject area is normally made up of 4 units.
  Two in Year 11 (1 2) and two in Year 12 (3
  4).
• Outcome - define what students will know and be
  able to do as a result of undertaking the study.

The language of VCE

• Prerequisite some studies require students to
  complete Units 1 2 before they can study Unit 3
  4. This particularly pertinent in the Maths and
  Science area.

What is required?

• It is expected that Year 11 students study 6
  subjects.
• This could be a combination of Year 11, Year 12
  and VET subjects

VET

• It is possible for students to continue their VET
  studies into Year 11 as Unit 3 4 studies
• It is possible for students who have not studied
  a VET this year to pick one up
• It is possible for students who have studied a
  VET this year to drop it next year

• Students who have studied

• Studio Art
• Physical Education
• History
• this year as Year 11 subjects can continue with
  these subjects as Unit 3 4

English

• All students must study English. This could be
  either
• English
• ESL
• Literature

• Maths is not compulsory at VCE
• At Year 11 there are 3 studies
• Maths Methods
• General Maths
• Foundation Maths
• At Year 12 there are three studies
• Specialist Maths
• Maths Methods
• Further Maths

Mathematics

• Maths teachers are currently making
  recommendations about studies that students could
  possibly undertake in 2008.
• Students who plan on continuing with Maths in
  Year 11 and require extra support in this area
  are currently being directed into Personal
  learning sessions.

Subject Offerings 2008

• Students have all received a Subject Handbook
  which outlines the potential studies that
  students could undertake.
• These studies will tend to revolve around three
  streams
• Humanities
• Art/Design
• Maths/Science

Relationship with Collingwood College

• During 2007 we have had a provision relationship
  with Collingwood College
• This has involved 5 students travelling to
  Collingwood College to study subjects.
• During 2008 this partnership will continue.
• The benefit of this partnership has been the
  extra flexibility it has given students in their
  program planning.
• We are currently in negotiation with Collingwood
  College about which subjects FHS students will be
  able to access.
