What are E-Journals?
  • Electronic journals may be defined broadly as
    any journal, magazine, e'zine, webzine,
    newsletter or type of electronic serial
    publication which is available over the Internet.
    Publication of E-journals has become the main
    area of thrust for most of the publishers in the
    area of Science and Technology.

  • The ACM Digital Library has been developed by
    ACM (Association of Computing Machinery) .
  • Three kinds of packages are available
  • Digital Library Core Package
  • Digital Library master special interest group

  • Terms for all digital library packages
  • 1.Three simultaneous users are permitted for any
    of these packages it will cost 175 per added
    user.
  • 2. The subscribed library may provide ACM with as
    many IP addresses as desired, any class IP
    address!

American Institute of Physics
  • The AIP Online Journal Service is available to
    individuals and institutions that subscribe to
    one or more of the AIP print journals.
  • For individuals,username and password are
    provided during subscription.
  • For Institutions, a maximum of 10 IP
    addresses/ranges is allowed. This has to be
    provided at the time of subscription.

    offered by the American Society of Microbiology.
  • An Authorized Site is an institutional (e.g.,

    building.

    being offered.

  • EBSCO Online is based on the traditional services
    that EBSCO Subscription Services provides.
  • EBSCO online hosts more than 2,100 electronic
    journals. Administrators can choose from a
    variety of authentication methods to make access
    easy for users depending on their needs.

  • Science Direct is the product of Elsevier
    science, the premier electronic journal publisher
    on the Internet which publishes nearly 1000
    English language scientific journals.
  • Contents Direct is an alerting service for
    Elsevier Science journals.

IDEAL
  • Ideal is the online library of electronic
    journals from Academic Press, selected journals
    from W.B.Saunders Ltd. and Churchill Livingstone
    Ltd.
  • APPEAL permits copying and transmission of
    articles from IDEAL within the consortium, but
    prohibits all copying and transmission of the
    electronic files outside the consortium.
  • The pricing model is

  • print and electronic access 135.

  • The IEEE/IEE Electronic Library is brought out by
    the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
    Engineers (IEEE) and the Institution of
    Electrical Engineers (IEE).
  • Discount is available if the print version is
    being subscribed by the organization. Special
    Academic Pricing is available. Authentication is
    done by checking the Username and Password.

Ingenta Journals
  • Ingenta Journals is a free service that can be
    accessed by users world-wide.
  • Free access to the full text of the articles held
    in Ingenta Journals is dependant on individual or
    institutional subscription rights and the
    arrangements made by the publishers.
  • It is also possible to enter the service as a
    guest user. This allows to view bibliographic
    details and abstracts of the articles, and to
    access some full text articles on a pay-per-view
    basis.

  • It is not possible to subscribe to electronic
    form only. The electronic transmission of copies

    not allowed.

Kluwer Online
  • Kluwer Online is the product of Kluwer publishers
  • If an institution requires both versions, a
    surcharge of 20 will be applicable. There are
    three kinds of subscriptions
  • 1.Standard SubscriptionsSubscription to as many
    journals in either electronic only form or
    combined with a paper subscription.
  • 2.Single Site License If there are a large
    number of holdings from Kluwer, the institution
    may negotiate a site license.
  • 3.Multi-Site/Consortia Site License A consortia
    may negotiate a license for all its member
    institutions.

  • LINK is an information service created for the
    Internet by the science publisher Springer.
  • Authentication is done by checking user names
    and passwords and, in the case of institutional
    users, IP addresses.
  • LINK is not restricted to the Springer
    publishing group other publishers take advantage
    of this service by publishing their journals
    within LINK. Email alerting service is available.

Royal Society of Chemistry
  • The RSC journals are available from the RSC Web
    Site. The individual journal home pages contain
    a link to the 'Online Journal and Contents
    Lists'.
  • Access is controlled by username and password
    and, from January 1999, by IP address.
  • During subscription,the Subscriber's address plus
    all Subscriber's locations within that same city
    or within a five (5) mile eight (8) km radius
    of the Subscriber's address could be given.
    Outlying field stations could also be included in
    the Subscriber's Site provided (i) they are
    wholly owned or run by the Subscriber and (ii)
    the number of Authorised Users at the field
    station is less than 10 of the number of
    Authorised Users at the Subscriber's Site.
