Service
  • This is were members of the community benefit
    from the actions of those undertaking the service
    section.
  • Students have
  • Run a tuck shop
  • Helped with the Oswestry in Bloom preparations
  • Prefecture and CCF

Physical Recreation
  • Examples of this are
  • A sporting team (outside of the timetable)
  • An individual past time such as cycling or
  • walking (evidence?)
  • Other activities such as archery and sailing are
    also covered in this section

Skill
  • A skill is an activity that necessitates the
    participant assimilating knowledge and
    practicality in order to take part.
  • The list of skills ranges from agriculture to
    zoology with over 50 other suggestions in
    between.

School Provision
  • Administration of signing on to the Award Scheme
  • All expedition training provision
  • An assessment expedition
  • Checking of record books prior to submitting for
    final award
  • Being hassled to find out what you are doing for
    each section!

Timescales
  • Service is undertaken for 12 months
  • Skills and Physical Rec. One for 6 months and
    the other for 12 months
  • If direct entry either service or whichever is
    the longer of Skill and Physical Rec must be
    followed for a further 6 months.
  • Upper age limit of 25!!

  • Walking
  • Canoeing
  • Sea Kayaking (Bi-Annually)
  • Horse

Walking/Canoeing
  • Canoeing Group 6-8 in pairs
  • Walking Group 4-7
  • Attend a 4/5 day initial training package during
    the Easter Holidays.
  • Attend a 3 day practice Expedition during summer
    term
  • Planning sessions during lunchtimes
  • Carry out an Assessment Expedition of four days
    and three nights during the Summer Term in year
    13.
  • Other option is to attend a week long training
    course through the cadet force

Sea Kayaking (Group Size 5-7)
  • Gain grounding in Kayaking through school or CCAT
  • Attend a Sea Kayaking Conversion Package and
    Practise Expedition over the last 4/5 days of the
    Easter Break
  • Plan a 3 day practice expedition during the
    summer term
  • Plan and carry out an Assessment Expedition of
    four days and three nights during the last few
    weeks of term

Horse
  • Groups can conduct their assessment by horse back
  • This is done through a centre in the Brecon
    Beacons.
  • Initial experience in riding, hacks etc
  • Additional cost of training at 55 per day per
    person.
  • Assessment at 75 per day

  • Complete Silver.
