15Spending Money
- We recognise that there will be times throughout
the day that your child may require refreshments
such as drinks and ice-creams, as well as wanting
to purchase gifts and souvenirs of the places
they visit. Spending money will therefore be
essential for your child. We recommend that a
daily amount of 5.00 will be sufficient,
however, you may want to give your child 10.00
on the first day (30.00 in total for the whole
week). In order to help control spending money
the staff will look after the money on behalf of
the pupils and give out thier 5.00 daily
allowance on each morning. - Here is how we would like to organise spending
money
ISLE OF WIGHT
Year 6 Residential Visit 2008
16Spending Money
- Give your child their Monday allowance (the sum
of 10.00) on the departing day. Your child will
be responsible for their money. - 2) To divide the rest of their spending money
(the sum of 20.00) into four envelopes
(envelopes provided by the school). Ensure each
envelope has a sum of 5.00 inside. - 3) On each envelope please mark clearly
- the name of your child
- the name of your childs group leader
- the day of the week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday) - 4) Hand in these four envelopes to your childs
group leader on the departing day. The leader
will then look after this money.

17Medical Information
- It is very important that we know about your
childs medical history and needs to ensure that
they enjoy a healthy trip. If an incident occurs
we need to know how best to act and help your
child. We therefore ask that you complete a
medical form for your child. We need to know of
any medication or treatments your child will need
to take during the trip. We need to know of any
allergies your child may suffer from, including
any special dietary requirements. We also need to
know if travel sickness is experienced. Mrs.
Baker is our Lead First Aider and will have the
responsibility of administering any medication.

Year 6 Residential Visit 2008
18Luggage
- Children will only require one suitably sized
suitcase for their visit to the Isle of Wight. A
mixture of clothing for all types of weather will
be sensible, along with appropriate footware. A
full list of clothing and equipment to pack will
be given on a separate sheet. In addition to
their suitcase, a small rucksack will be required
for daily use (i.e. storage of drinks, equipment
etc). A luggage tag with childs name and school
name should be attached to both the suitcase and
rucksack this will be provided by the school on
the departing day for you to attach. Remember
that your child will need to be able to safely
handle their own luggage.

19Electronics
- In the past all electronic devices have been
banned on school trips. However, we recognise
that in todays society electronic devices are a
popular and entertaining way to pass time. We
have decided therefore that pupils will be
allowed restricted access to their electronic
devices during both the outward and return
journeys of their trip. It is only on these two
long journeys that the pupils will be allowed to
use their electronic devices. At all other times
their electronic devices will not be used and
will be locked away by the members of staff. - The following system will be put in place
ISLE OF WIGHT
Year 6 Residential Visit 2008
20Electronics
- The electronic device is to be sealed into a
clear plastic bag (i.e. sandwich bag) and
labelled clearly with your childs name. This is
very important for identification. The electronic
device is to be kept by the child on the
departing day (placed in their rucksack) and used
on the outward journey. On arrival at Portsmouth
the staff will collect in all of the electronic
devices and store them away. The pupils will no
longer be allowed to use them. On the return
journey, after arriving back at Portsmouth the
staff will hand back out the electronic devices
for pupils to use for the rest of the journey
back home. -
ISLE OF WIGHT
Year 6 Residential Visit 2008
21Electronics
- The electronic devices acceptable are
- Mp3 players or other type of music player (i.e.
i-pod) - Handheld games console (i.e. Nintendo DS Lite,
GameBoy) - No other electronic devices, including mobile
phones, are allowed! The opportunity to re-charge
any of these electronic devices will not be
given, so ensure your device is fully charged.
All electronic devices taken on the trip are
entirely at the risk of the owner, the school and
its staff will not take responsibility for the
loss, theft or damage of these electronic devices.

22Other Information
- For many pupils their visit to the Isle of Wight
will be the first time they are away from home or
their parents. In our experience this provides a
good opportunity for your child to develop their
independence and responsibilty. We therefore ask
that communication between you and your child
does not take place during the visit. Telephone
calls and e-mails will not be allowed. Mobile
phones are not to be taken on the trip. The trip
provides time for both parents and children to
have a break away from each other. We would like
to encourage, however, a more traditional method
of communication. We would like your child to
send a written postcard back home. Please provide
your child with some 1st class postage stamps to
use and we will aim to post them by the third day.

24Ground Rules
- To ensure that our trip runs smoothly and is
enjoyed by everyone we have some important rules,
known as the 5 Ground Rules, in which all pupils
are to follow - To show respect and good manners to everyone
- To be well behaved
- To follow adult instructions positively
- To respect and look after the hotel environment
- To be safe and stay with groups at all times
- A list of other rules and expectations that
pupils should follow are provided on a separate
sheet.

25Coming Back Home
- On the morning of Friday 27th June pupils will
need to have everything packed up ready for
departure. After their shower/wash everyone needs
to place their packed suitcase outside of their
room and ensure the whole bedroom and bathroom is
cleared and tidy by 8.00am. Breakfast will then
be served as normal. Room inspections will take
place by the hotel staff to ensure no damage has
been made! After loading up the coach and saying
our goodbyes, we will then depart from the hotel
for the final time at approximately 9.15am.
ISLE OF WIGHT
Year 6 Residential Visit 2008
26Return Journey
- After departing from the hotel we will first
visit the Flamingo Park Wildlife Encounter for a
couple of hours. We will then take time to have
lunch before boarding a WightLink ferry service
at Fishbourne due for departure at 1.30pm. - The ferry service will sail to Portsmouth back on
the mainland and will take approximately 40
minutes. - On arrival at Portsmouth the coach will continue
its journey back to Ramsgate. Arrival time back
at school will depend largely on the flow of
traffic, but we estimate that we will be back at
6.00pm. On arrival pupils should unload their
luggage and assemble in the hall. Parents can
then meet their child inside and then take them
back home.
