Title: Progress in BDS

1
Progress in BDS
  • Andrei Seryi
  • for the BDS group
  • June 6, 2005
  • 130 Monday Meeting
  • (The previous summary was shown on April 18, 2005)

2
  • Real magnets for FF and extraction, for 2mrad IR
  • Scale models of larger aperture QD0, (B.Parker)
  • Consideration of large apertureSD0, (V.Kashikhin)
  • IR design with real magnets and BPMs
  • adjusting SiD concept to match (T.Maruyama,
    T.Markiewicz, J.Jaros, et al.)
  • need to work with other detector concepts groups
  • Short FD FF/extraction optics design for 2mrad
  • reoptimized 2mrad for 250GeV/beam with short FD,
US-UK team (D.Angal-Kalinin, et al. for UK)
  • Beam dump design
  • Started consideration of the dump for ILC
    parameters (L.Keller,D.Walz,E.Doyle)
  • Collimation performance and optimization of
    collimation optics is ongoing (S.Drozhdin,
    L.Keller, M.Kostin, et al.)
  • Beam losses and performance vs parameter range
    (Y.Nosochkov,T.Maruyama)
  • Tune-up dump design (M.Woodley)
  • Design of post-ip diagnostics for 2mrad
    (K.Moffeit,M.Woods,Y.Nosochkov)
  • ESA preparation (R.Arnold,M.Woods)
  • Conventional facility design (F.Asiri et al.)
  • BDS feedback and jitter specs (L.Hendrickson,G.Whi
    te)
  • Solenoid effect on extraction (Y.Nosochkov)
  • E-cloud in BDS and beam-beam (J.Wu)

20 mrad IR vs 2 mrad IR
  • Disrupted beam losses on SC elements limit
    performance
  • Preliminary Better detector hermeticity of 2mrad
IR comes together with lower luminosity reach
  • Optimization of design and evaluation will
    continue

Expected achievements from BDIR Wkshp., draft
  • For the BDIR/WG4 topics, after the London BDIR
workshop, it is expected that the following will
    be achieved
  • Discuss and agree on what to bring to Snowmass,
in terms of further development of the design,
    between London and Snowmass
  • Outline the document(s) to be written for
    Snowmass
  • Define milestones and people who are doing the
    work
  • Examine the status of the BDS designs with 20 and
2mrad IR, and any possible alternatives
  • Reaffirm that the present configuration of BDS
with 20/2mrad is the main baseline
  • Agree on optics decks for 20/2mrad with the goal
of fixing these by when ... How about
    Bastille day, July, 14th
  • Agree on comparison/benchmarks for the design.
  • For the ATF2, it is expected that we completed
the proposal document, and discussed the next
    steps toward the ATF2 collaboration.
