3Registration/Abstract Submission Please register
for SIAL 5 by sending your abstract to Christian
Albrecht not later than June 30th, 2009. E-mail
Christian.Albrecht_at_allzool.bio.uni-giessen.de Abst
racts should have a maximum of 3500 characters
which will be one printed page. Please use Arial
11 and send a word rtf-document. Please do not
format your abstract and do not add references to
your text.Abstracts will be published in the
scientific journal Review HBI Ohrid". Please
indicate whether you wish to give an oral
presentation or present a poster and if you are
willing to present a poster in case that the
scientific committee does not select you for an
oral presentation which may well happen due to
the limited number of sessions. It is intended
to publish forthcoming papers of the symposium in
a special volume of a high-ranking peer-reviewed
international journal.If you wish to
participate in one or both of the excursions
please let us know when registering. Please pay
your conference fee cash at arrival Normal 175
EurosReduced (students, unemployed) 75
Euros Includes all conference activities except
for lunch and farewell dinner. The farewell
dinner is still under negotiation and will
probably cost about 25 Euro (register
please). Depending on participants a number of
sessions are planned. These could e.g. include a
session on Lake Ohrid, comparative studies on
ancient lakes, ecology and conservation, new
approaches in speciation studies, ancient lake
deep drilling, and paleolakes.
4Student Grants There are four student grants
available covering for 400 Euros each plus free
registration. All regular graduate students
(masters and PhD programs) are encouraged to
apply. The application must include the
abstract, CV, and a short letter of motivation
and should be send electronically to Christian
Albrecht (Christian.Albrecht_at_allzool.bio.uni-giess
en.de) no later than April 30th, 2009. Best
Poster Award The scientific comittee will select
the three best poster presentation at SIAL 5.
Accommodation How many rooms are reserved at
the Millenium Palace conference hotel until April
30th, 2009. A Single room (bed breakfast) is 45
Euro and Double rooms are avalaible at 33 Euros
p.p. (bed breakfast). Please book yourself
referring to SIAL Alternative
accommodation The organizers of SIAL 5 are
particularly interested in participation of
students and young scientists. There are a number
of low budget alternatives to the conference
hotel in walking distance. If you are interested
