2. Prioritizing Tasks
  • Once we know WHAT needs to be done, we need to
    set priorities for tasks
  • Set priorities based on
  • Urgency (e.g., due date tomorrow?!)
  • Importance (e.g., a 40 vs. a 10 test)

6
2. Prioritizing Tasks
  • High , due very soon, needs to be done
  • Low , due far into future, may be done

HIGH
LOW
7
Am I Working My As Off?
  • 80/20 Rule
  • In any list of tasks, 80 of the importance lies
    in 20 of the list

3. Estimating Time
  • Once we know WHAT our priorities are, we need to
estimate the amount of time for the tasks weve
    chosen to do
  • Why?
  • So we can plan WHEN we do the tasks

11
3. Estimating Time
  • Rules of Thumb
  • For every 1 hour in class you should be spending
    1-2 hours studying/working
  • 20 hrs class 30 hrs study/work 50 hrs!
  • For every 1 of a test, assignment or quiz, you
should be spending ½ to 1 hour working or
    studying
  • 20 test requires 10-20 hrs of studying!

12
3. Estimating Time
  • TIP Break large tasks into many smaller (more
    manageable) ones

13
4. Planning Time
14
Planning
  • Failing to plan is planning to fail.

True or False
  • You should only do personal tasks after all
    school work is done.
  • I should be using my student planner to manage my
    time.
  • If I have a 20 test, I should study for 2-4
    hours.
  • A 20 test takes higher priority than a 10 test.
