can work together to answer the librarians
questions. For each correct answer, she will
give you a log or some rope. When you have
collected enough, you need to build a raft if you
ever want to leave here! Ask the librarian to
write the number of questions your team answered

the computers in the fiction section.

to happen when you are marooned, so FIRST AID is
important to know! Use the library catalog to
locate first-aid books and go to that shelf.

Task 3. Oh my aching head..Oh my, your team
is accident prone! One member has a head injury,
one has hurt her ankle, one a wrist, and the last
one needs her arm in a sling! Give each other
the necessary first aid with the materials
provided for your team. Then proceed to the
tables in the nonfiction area.

materials available on the tables to make your
maps. When you are finished, go to the computers

prizes at the auction! Use the library catalog
to find a book on fishing. Go to that shelf.

Task 5 Gone fishingThere is more than one way
to catch a fishand many other water creatures!
Go to the 7th grade hallway outside of the LMC.
Elect one team member to be the flipper and the
others to hold the net. The object is to flip
those critters into the net before they skitter
away. Record how many critters your team
catches on the collection sheet by 5. When you
are finished go to the computers by the biography
shelves.

classic novel Treasure Island? Write the
authors last name at 6. Find the book on the
shelf and pick up your teams envelope to
discover where your treasure is! When you find
it, head back to the computers by the reference
section. Look for your teams 7.

sheet. Go to that shelf to find your
materials.
Task 7 Im not eating that!Well, maybe later
when you get really hungry these will look more
appetizing! You need to weave a little basket to
carry your critters. Use the materials provided
for your team. When you have collected the bugs
and critters, it is time to go to the fiction
computers and look for your teams Task 8.

you can figure out where you are by looking at
the stars. Find the constellation books. Write
the call number by 8 on your collection
sheet.
- Task 8 Twinkle TwinkleIdentify the
constellations in the folder! Write the names of
the constellations on the paper provided for your
team. Make sure your answers match the numbers
on the constellations. Record the number of
constellations that you got correct next to 8 on
your collection sheet. When you are finished, we
still need to work on food gathering, so go back
to the computers on the back wall.

9 Find the shelf where the bird books are.
Write the call number by 9 on your collection
sheet. Go to the 6th grade hallway outside the
LMC to find your equipment.

- Task 9 Bye Bye Birdie
- Lucky for us there are lots of birds here
if you can catch them. Use the bird catching
equipment provided to see how many you can catch.
Elect one team member to bat birds and one to
catch them in the net. You get 1 minute to
practice. All team members take a turn. BUT you
only get one chance at each bird before it flies
away! Record how many birds your team catches on
your collection sheet. When youre through, go
to the Biography computers. I think we better
signal for some help
13Materials Sandpaper, mini-macaroni shells,
glue, French/English dictionaries Task 10 On the
table you will find the materials you need to
write a help message. BUT your rescuers only
know FRENCH! Use what you have learned to find a
French/English dictionary to find out what you
need to write! Record the call number on your
collection sheet.
