Welcome to Fifth Grade!

• I will introduce you to fifth grade and to our
  classroom.

All About Me

• My background
• I grew up in Brinkley, Kentucky.
• I attended Knott County Central High School, The
  University of Kentucky, and Morehead State
  University in Kentucky. I also graduated from the
  University of Tennessee with my masters degree..
  
• My experience
• Ive been teaching for 7 years.
• I have also taught sixth, seventh, and eight
  grades, but fifth is my favorite.

My Goals

• To give you the academic and social skills you
  need to progress to sixth grade.
• To provide a supportive and fun classroom
  environment.
• To help you make new friends and discover new
  interests.

• The subjects we cover in my classroom during
  fifth grade are
• Language Arts (English)
• Social studies

Language Arts

• Throughout the year we will be studying the
  different parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adverbs,
  adjectives, pronouns, prepositions, and much
  more.)
• You will also complete Mountain Language every
  week, this is an activity that allows you to
  practice using different English skills
  continuously.
• You will also dance sing to Language jingles.

Social Studies

• We will explore the history of The United States
  of America. We will learn about slavery, 7 wars,
  the government, womens rights and much more.

Team Teachers

• I have the privilege to teach with two wonderful
  people
• Mrs. Moseley will teach reading, writing,
  spelling.
• Mr. Allen will teach math science.

Classroom Community

• Our classroom is a community. In our community,
  we have rules to help us get along with each
  other.
• Our class rules are
• Be respectful and responsible.
• Be organized and follow directions.
• Be on time.
• Be prepared.

Homework

• I will assign Mountain Language every week.
  (Completed in class)
• You will be assigned a Fill-in every Monday and
  it will be due on Wednesday.
• You will be assigned several projects to complete
  throughout the year.
• You will design a power point presentation
  sometime during the year
• All homework is due the very next day or you will
  receive a zero.

Tardiness

• School starts at 800 A.M.
• If you arent in the classroom by the time the
  announcements are over, please check in at the
  school office before coming to class.
• If you are tardy four times, the school will
  contact your parents.

Field Trips

• We have lots of fun field trips planned for this
  year!
• We will plan at least one field trip before
  Christmas break.
• Other field trips will take place in the Spring.
