Year 11 Exam Revision Sessions

Why are we running these sessions?
  • Last year boys did not achieve as many A - C
    grades as girls
  • All pupils on this course are not achieving their
    average target grade or their upper target grade
  • We care!

Why are we here tonight?
  • It is the schools responsibility to deliver the
    National Curriculum and exam subjects BUT
  • Pupils need parents support at home if they are
    to achieve their potential
  • Some pupils are not as committed to achieving as
    school or their parents are!
  • We want to raise these pupils grades!

Format of the sessions
  • 2.30 2.45 Boxing using pads and
    gloves/Dance/aerobics/activities
  • 2.45 3.10 revision
  • 3.15 3.45 revision
  • 3.45 4.00 finish to catch late bus or extra
    exercise if walking/cycling/being picked up

Why boxing?
  • Boxing is a high energy sport
  • High intensity - short bursts
  • Suits this programme
  • Great for anger management ?
  • Releases endorphins to get students in the right
    frame of mind
  • It is different!

Benefits to pupils
  • Aim will obviously be to raise grades
  • To initiate revision
  • To aid revision techniques
  • To raise self esteem
  • To instil a need to think about their future
  • To work as a team to achieve
  • To build self confidence in ability to achieve
  • To realise that its not too late YET!!!!

Benefits to parents
  • Pupil is supported by the school to revise
  • Aim for pupil to develop more coping mechanisms
    for this period of time
  • Pupil develops greater sense of responsibility
    for own future
  • Pupils are less stressed
  • We are a direct support for parents as well

  • As a table please write down
  • What you perceive to be the limiting factors to
    your child achieving their average potential
    grades
  • How much physical fitness your child does each
    week?
  • What limits your child from staying at school for
    longer each day to complete work/revision?
  • Any other points you would like to make for the
    school to begin to address about revision and
    support for pupils.

Next steps
  • Formal contract to sign
  • Parent, pupil and staff forming a basic agreement
    and commitment
  • Pupils start after half term
  • No sessions missed, if absent we need reasons
  • Parents offered supporting sessions, so they can
    support appropriately at home

Parents Support Sessions
  • An evening for each core subject
  • In sessions parents can learn
  • Appropriate revision techniques for that subject
  • Appropriate materials to use
  • Non invasive methods to ascertain childs
    learning
  • A check list of information your child should
    know.
