Air Force AthleticsMission Statement
  • The objective of the Academy athletic program is
to provide all cadets a realistic leadership
experience in a mentally and physically
    challenging environment. This prepares and
motivates cadets for a lifetime of service
through physical education, fitness training and
    testing, intramural and intercollegiate athletic
    competition.
  • The mission also includes generating a major
portion of revenue necessary to operate a
multi-million dollar athletic program and to
promote the Academy to the nation through
    athletics.
  • All cadets must participate in an intercollegiate
or intramural sport throughout the academic year.
    There are
  • 27 men's and women's intercollegiate sports,
competing in the highly competitive Mountain West
    Conference.
  • Furthermore, cadet-athletes enjoy some of the
best facilities available anywhere. The cadet gym
    contains 12 squash courts 21 handball/racquetball
courts and nine basketball courts. There are two
swimming pools and four indoor tennis courts
    gymnastics, wrestling, fencing, boxing, aerobic
    fitness and judo rooms.
  • The 5.6 million field house, considered one of
the top sports structures in the country,
contains a one-sixth mile indoor track with
Astroturf infield. It is the home of the
    6,002-seat basketball/volleyball Clune Arena, a
2,502 seat ice hockey rink, training rooms and
lockers for varsity sports. Basketball and ice
hockey are uniquely serviced by a common press
box that overlooks both arenas. A spectator
concourse separates the two areas and serves as
access to the seating gallery for the indoor
track, ticket offices, gift shop and concession
    stand.
  • Falcon Stadium, in one of the most beautiful
settings in the nation, seats more than 52,480
for varsity football contests. Other outdoor
facilities include 57 athletic fields (143 acres)
for intercollegiate and intramural sports, two
    baseball diamonds and a 400-meter all-weather
track. Eisenhower Golf Course, also located on
the Academy, offers two 18 hole championship
courses for varsity golf and cross country
    competition.

Air Force Football Falcon Stadium
The pageantry at Falcon Stadium on game day is
among the finest in all of college football. The
pregame fly-bys and Wings of Blue parachute team
are among the favorites. Before every home game
the cadets squadrons march into Falcon Stadium as
part of the pregame festivities. Following the
march-on the cadets rush to the east grandstand
to take their seats for the game. After every
Falcon score, the cadets run to the field and do
one push-up for every point on the scoreboard.
At halftime, the Falconers take the field for a
special aerobatic demonstration by one of the
Air Forces 12 to 15 Falcons. Air Force has the
only performing mascot in the NCAA. Following
every game, win or lose, the Falcons join hands
in front of the band for the playing of the Alma
Mater. For service academy games, both teams
come together for each academys song.
