  • Dear Dr. A. Seryi
  • I have to ask VAT Co. about the design of the
special gate valves in any way. Personally, it
will be safe to use 4 valves with one aperture
    each.
  • To make a gate valve with two apertures is
technically very interesting (at least for me),
and may be possible in principle, but I have
never seen such valves, and developing it will
require further RD. The vacuum sealing will be
a circle surrounding two apertures, which has no
problem. A problem is how to make a sure
electric contact at the apertures simultaneously,
when the valve is open. If sufficient
mechanical strength of the body could be kept, it
will be possible. Detailed design and calculation
is necessary. Note that to connect a beam pipe
with two apertures with one flange is also
    possible.
  • The RF-shield valve as shown in Haba-sans slide
(we call it a comb-type RF-shield) can fit to a
complex aperture, such as a beam duct with
ante-chamber. The RF-shield can be applied to a
gate valve with two apertures in principle. This
structure, furthermore, can be easily applied to
such a small aperture compared to the
    conventional finger-type RF-shield. However, we
have never considered the case with two apertures
as described above. There is no impedance
calculation of such valves. Instead, I had
    calculated some RF-properties about that
RF-shield itself. Please see the following
