Calculation of Total Daily Water Requirements

• Daily Water Requirements Based on Type of
  Occupancy
• How many people and or livestock
• Add Special Requirements
• e.g.. automatic lawn sprinklers
• Estimate the Water Supply Demand
• determine supply fixture units for each fixture
• total the supply fixture units for the system
• determine G.P.M. based on Total Supply Fixture
  Unit curve
• add special requirements in G.P.M
• Size the Service Pipe Based on estimated
  calculations

Calculation of Water Distribution Pipe Size

• determine pressure at the water main and required
  pressure for proper fixture operation
• allow for static pressure loss/gain (head at .43
  psi/ft)
• determine friction loss of the meter/main tap
• include any friction loss through
  backflows/filters/softeners
• include losses through pipe friction/valves/fittin
  gs
• use overall length from water main to furthest
  fixture determine main size

Application

• starting at the furthest fixture, size pipe based
  on cold fixture units required
• continue to add fixtures and size pipe according
  to fixture unit table
• hot water fixture units are included in sizing of
  cold water pipe at hot water tank supply
  connection
• hot water pipes are sized in the same manner as
  the cold
