• If Mia is 6 years
• The MLU for Mia was 2.78, which corresponds with
  Stage III in the development of Browns
  morphemes. A child with morphological development
  at Stage III is approximately 31-34 months of
  age. Since Mia is 72 months of age, her mean
  length of utterance is below that expected for
  her chronological age. However, her upper bound
  length of 6 morphemes indicates that she has the
  potential to increase her mean length of
  utterance.

Morphological Analysis Summary Examples

• The results of Mias morphological analysis of
  her language sample revealed that the following
  morphemes were produced with 100 accuracy
  present progressive, the preposition in,
  regular plural, and the uncontractible copula.
• Mia produced the following morphemes at varying
  percentages of use irregular past (25),
  possessive s (50), and the contractible
  auxiliary (66). All of these morphemes are
  expected to be developed by the age of 50 months.
  Specifically the expected development is
  irregular past 46 months, possessive s 40
  months, articles 50 months, contractible copula,
  49 months, and the contractible auxiliary 48
  months.
• The following morphemes were not produced during
  the language sample articles and the
  contractible copula. These morphemes should be
  developed by 46 and 49 months respectively.
• Results indicate that some morphemes are
  developed as expected, other are below that
  expected for her chronological age, and some are
  not produced at all.

Semantic Analysis Summary Example

• Mias type token ratio of .66 is above
  the average of .50. This indicates that she has
  an adequate variety of different classes of words
  in her vocabulary, with the exception of articles
  and conjunctions. Articles should be produced by
  the age of 46 months, and since Mia is 72 months
  of age she is behind in the production of
  articles.

  Articles development usually occurs by the age of
  46 months. The criteria of 3 out of 5 trials were
  set since the semantic analysis and the
  morphological analysis indicated no use of
  articles.
• In Circle time, Mia will verbally describe the
  family/weekend events using the contractible
  auxiliary verb on 9 out of 10 trials, by the end
  of the first quarter.
• This objective was set since the current
  accuracy level of contractible auxiliaries was
  66. Contractible auxiliaries are produced by the
  age of 50 months. The accuracy level of 90 was
  determined to be feasible since Mia is already
  producing contractible auxiliaries at the 66
  level.

• In cooperative groups, Tim will verbally produce
  contractible auxiliary "to be" verbs on 6 out of
  10 trials by the end of the semester.
• Tim will verbally produce articles in sentences
  in classroom discussions on 5 out of 10 trials by
  the end of the academic year.
• In science class, Tim will name animals with 80
  accuracy by the end of the unit.
• Tim will verbally identify sports equipment in
  gym class on 8 out of 10 trials by the end of the
  school year.

• The MLU for Radio is 5.04, which corresponds with
  Stage VI in the development of Brown's Morphemes.
  A student with morphological development at Stage
  VI is 4 years . MLU is a reasonably accurate
  measure of syntactic complexity until the child
  reaches an MLU of 4.0. After this point MLU
  becomes a less accurate measure of language
  complexity and gives only a general indication
  of a student's syntactical development. Radio's
  upper bound length of 16 indicates Radio has the
  potential to increase his MLU.
• Since Radio is 16 years old, other assessment is
  needed (see Kuder p. 218-224).
