STE A Quick Overview

STE Line Ordering
  • STE Secure Terminal Equipment
  • Sets are not on WITS2001 contract, but
Service_at_once will provision lines to support
    these sets.

3
Secure Terminal Equipment
  • Rule number 1 A STE is a security device
    first and a telephone second.
  • A STE acts more like a piece of data CPE. In
fact, the ISDN configuration is the same that is
used to configure a line used for one model of a
    CISCO router.
  • Preferred mode of operation is National ISDN.
  • Feature development is being done for the
National configuration. Enhancements are also due
    for the 8510 emulation mode.

4
Secure Terminal Equipment
  • A STE can be configured for one DN per unit or
two directory numbers (DNs) per unit (supports
secure casual conference and bonded data
    transmission at 128K).
  • A STE is always a multipoint (MP) configuration
even when only one DN is assigned. A STE
requires a Service Profile Identifier (SPID) to
    function.
  • A STE must be the only piece of equipment on the
    MP pipe.

Service_at_once - STE
Use ISDN Ordering Code (IOC) U or V for both 5ESS
and DMS configurations.

  • Set up for V/D on the B1 channel and NONE on the
B2 channel on each equipped number.
  • Why?
  • The set only uses one channel per DN. In the
secure mode, it establishes a data call to the
other unit. In the non-secure voice mode, it
uses the B channel for a normal voice call. The
set cannot function in the secure mode and
    non-secure mode concurrently.
  • In the two DN mode, the set establishes a second
data call using the second DN B channel for a
secure casual conference or bonded data
    transmission.

Service_at_once - STE
  • As the order enterer, you need to input the class
of service and the PIC for each of the assigned
    directory numbers
  • The IOC will populate the rest of the line
    parameters to support the STE
  • You can add additional features to the STE..but
  • Remember Rule number 1
  • Security Device First
  • Telephone Second

12
Service_at_once - STE 5ESS - 8510 Emulation Mode
  • Custom ISDN terminal type D
  • Multipoint SHDNIPO/SHDNIPM
  • On each ISDN pipe B1V/D B2None
  • This configuration does support visual MWI.
  • This is not a plug and play replacement for a
Lucent 8510. Operation is unpredictable at
times. Work is being done to enhance.
  • Keys 9 and 10 do not have lamps/indicators.
  • Call appearances assigned beyond key 10 will
cause the STE to reset when they ring.
  • Remember Rule number 1.

13
Service_at_once - STEHelpful Hints
  • When using 2 DNs, cross-reference each DN in the
    remarks section in Service_at_once.
  • STE lines can be provisioned National ISDN even
if other office lines are Custom ISDN.
  • Shared call appearances are only supported on
    STEs with 8510 Emulation.
  • Reference the Secure Wired Products Web Site (see
next page) for information about STEs and PBXs /
    PRIs.
