• The United States is a country found in North
  America. It is south of Canada and north of
  Mexico. This is a modern industrialized nation
  that has been independent since 1776. Today, the
  customs and practices of Americans are different
  based on the ethnic background of people in the
  US. Holidays, food, and music are three of the
  factors that influence American culture.

Holidays

• Many different holidays are celebrated in
  America, which are both religious and secular.
  Although 80 of Americans identify themselves as
  Christian, approximately 96 celebrate Christmas.
  This holiday celebrates the birth of Jesus
  Christ, on December 25th, in the Christian
  tradition. Other winter holidays celebrated are
  the Jewish tradition of Hanukkah and the
  African-American holiday Kwanzaa. Most Americans
  celebrate other secular holidays such as
  Halloween, New Years, and the Fourth of July.
  Halloween is in October and children dress up in
  costumes and go door to door saying, Trick or
  Treat, and they get candy. New Years Eve
  celebrates the start of the new calendar year and
  the biggest celebration occurs in New York Citys
  Times Square, where a ball drops to announce the
  new year. The Fourth of July is a national
  holiday that celebrates the birth of the nation,
  when the Declaration of Independence was signed.

American food is best known for pizza and
hamburgers, but the food options are much more
diverse than this. Ethnic food from all around
the world can be found in American grocery stores
and restaurants. From Asia, you can find
Japanese sushi, Indian Chicken Makhani, Thai
curry dishes, and Middle Eastern hummus. These
recipes are full of flavors such as curry, basil,
lemon grass, and seaweed. European foods include
paella from Spain, which is a dish of rice and
fish, and potato-filled pasta pockets called
pierogies from Poland. At almost every family
restaurant, you can also find Mexican dishes such
as quesadillas. These are a famous appetizer that
makes a cheese and meat sandwich out of soft
flour tortilla bread.

Music is an important part of culture in the USA.
Popular types of music in America are Country,
Hip-Hop, and Rock. Though people listen to a
variety of music, each genre has its own audience
and even its own radio stations. Country music
originates in the Southern United States and
includes artists such as Kenny Chesney and Garth
Brooks. Hip-Hop originated through the
African-American culture, though it has gained
popularity across ethnic groups through musicians
such as Kanye West and Will Smith. Last year,
one of the nations most popular T.V. shows,
American Idol, produced rock star David Cook. He
reintroduced rock music from the past with a
modern style and has since propelled himself to
the top of the music scene with his new album
that debuted at 3 on the Billboard charts.

The culture of the United States truly
represents the diversity of its people. People
are able to practice a variety of holidays, eat
food representing different cultures, and express
themselves through a mixture of musical genres.
