History of IR
  • Now in its 44th year, the fundamental purpose of
    the Contest is to encourage engineering students
    to participate in technical events that expand on
    their academic pursuits, build character toward
    good citizenship, and learn more about real world
    engineering.

OBJECTIVES
  • The Ingersoll-Rand Contest is designed to
  • strengthen the student section by providing a
    guideline for activities.
  • Foster professionalism of the individual by
    encouraging leadership and service
  • Emphasize a balanced program by providing a
    diverse range of events.
  • Encourage promotion to associate membership.

OBJECTIVES
  • Encourage competition and cooperation among
    student sections.
  • Provide a simple means of reporting student
    section activities.
  • Provide recognition for accomplishment.
  • Provide a means of documenting activities to
    facilitate future planning.

Regional Awards
  • First Place - 300, a permanent plaque, and a
    traveling trophy (if there is one) to the student
    section that earns the most baseline points.
  • Second Place - 200 and a permanent plaque to the
    student section that earns the second most
    baseline points.
  • Third Place - 100 to the student section scoring
    the third most baseline points.

Regional Awards
  • MOST Improved Section - 50 to the student
    section showing the greatest numerical
    improvement in baseline points.
  • A Certificate of Accomplishment to each student
    section scoring 400 or more baseline points.

    First Place Trophy
  • Little Giant Interregional Award 750, Permanent

RECENT CHANGES
  • This years Ingersoll-Rand contest contains no
    new events.
  • However, clarifications and restrictions have
    been made in the Categories of Meetings, Tours,
    and Social Functions as to the intent of how
    points should be earned. There are two main areas
    of concern that have been addressed.
  • First, events should be planned, not just
    impromptu get-togethers.
  • Second, somelimitations have been placed on the
    type and number of events per year.

DUE DATES FOR REPORTS
  • Preliminary Report Postmarked by Nov. 1.
  • Monthly Reports Postmarked by the fifteenth of
    the month following the month for which the
    report is made. Attach the February monthly
    report to the Final Report.
  • Final Report Postmarked by March 15 (two weeks
    prior to the first day of the region Xs
  • RSC, which occurs on first weekend in April
    2006).

    points/day based on the postmark. The points are
    subtracted from the baseline points earned.
