Title: The Shoebox Surprise
1The Shoebox Surprise
2It was the first day of school at Prairie View
Elementary, and the buses were just starting to
roll in..
3The students were full of the first day of school
jitters. The first day of school was always my
favorite, because I loved all the surprises and
excitement
4The bell rang and everybody lined up with their
classes and filed into their classrooms
5 I wonder what all those boxes in the corner are
for.
YES! I am finally a big bad second grader!
A million thoughts ran through my head as I got
the first glimpse of my very first second grade
classroom. My attention was immediately drawn to
the haphazard pile of shoeboxes in place of a
story rug
6My second grade teacher Mrs. Wine spent all day
telling us the rules of the classroom and what we
were going to study throughout the year.but
amidst all that talking she had yet to mention
the most exciting part of all
She just keeps talking and talking and talking
and talking.
Is she ever going to tell us about the boxes??
7Finally right before we were let out to go home,
Mrs. Wine started to tell us what all the
shoeboxes were for.
She told us that we were going to be making a
SHOEBOX CASTLE!!!! We were going to collect
enough boxes to make the walls of the castle out
of!
She reminded us that we were going to have to all
work together to gather enough boxes to make the
castle
8Sure enough, the next day everyone was bringing
tons of boxes in.
The pile kept growing
AND GROWING
AND GROWING!
9UNTIL IT SEEMED LIKE THE WHOLE ROOM WAS A SEA OF
EMPTY SHOEBOXES!!!!!!!!!!
10Mrs. Wines Class Castle!
We worked as a class a little bit each day during
our free time. In less than a month our castle
was completed!
11The rest of the year the castle was used for
quiet reading and journaling. And now, there were
more people than ever excited to go read and
write!
Mrs. Wines Class Castle!
12THE END!
