Routine care

• Helps prevent wrinkles, stains, and damage to
  clothing
• Always open all buttons and snaps before putting
  on clothing then re-hook before washing
• Take off shoes before putting on pants/shorts
• Remove stains as soon as possible
• Keep dirty and clean clothing separate
• Always hang or fold clothing

Storing Clothing

• Drawers and flat storage
• Dividers help separate small things
• Dont overfill
• Closets for hanging storage
• Use appropriate size hanger
• Seasonal storage
• put winter clothing in cool, dry place in summer
  (use mothballs for wool)

Washing Clothing

• Separate lights and darks, machine wash and dry
  clean
• Read care labels
• Pre-treat- treating garment prior to washing
• Select laundry products
• Select machine settings
• water temperature, water level, number of rinses
• Hand washing

Laundry Products

• Detergent
• Used to remove dirt
• Bleach
• Removes stains
• Whiten cotton fabric
• Non-chlorine bleach can be used on all washables
• Fabric Softener
• Reduce static and wrinkles
• Makes fabric softer
• Some added to wash, others are dryer sheets

Drying Clothes

• Dryer or Air Dry
• Always shake out clothing before drying
• Larger loads save energy but dont overload
• Over-drying can cause shrinkage or fire
• Clean out the filter

Pressing vs. Ironing

• Pressing lifting and lowering the iron onto
  clothing
• Ironing moving the iron back and forth over
  fabric
• Most woven fabrics need to be ironed
• Iron air dry clothing to reduce wrinkles

Dry Cleaning

• To clean with chemicals rather than water and
  detergent
• Prevents shrinkage
• Types Professional and coin operated cleaning
  machine, also home dry cleaning products
