Goals
  • Create an online scrapbook of historical
    materials
  • Increase access to primary source materials
  • Encourage teaching and study of state and local
    history
  • Commemorate the bicentennial
  • Facilitate collaboration among archives,
    historical societies, libraries and museums
  • Include materials from every community in Ohio

Ohio Memory Project
  • 1995 original idea for Bicentennial Scrapbook
    project
  • 2000 OPLIN board awarded 500,000
  • Funded Phase 1 July 2000- July 2002
  • To include materials up to 1903
  • OHS sought funding to complete scrapbook

  • July 2000 - Staff began work
  • Sept 2000 - Project site launched
  • Fall/Spring 2000 - 20 workshops to staff of
    museums, archives, historical societies and
    libraries to encourage participation
  • 5 submission deadlines

  • March 26, 2002 at the Ohio Statehouse
  • Mrs. Hope Taft, First Lady of Ohio, was honored
    guest
  • Partners recognized
