2
What is Recertification?
  • Recertification is a continuous
  • process of learning and development.

3
The Principles Behind Recertification
  • Recertification provides employers and
  • consumers with a method of assessing
  • continued professional competence.

4
The Principles Behind Recertification
  • Mandatory recertification requirement has given
  • the ASIS International certifications the highest
    of
  • credibility levels with government agencies,
    private
  • corporations, and organizations.

5
The Principles Behind Recertification
  • Recertification Helps you to
  • Stay abreast of concepts, technology, principles
    and best practices
  • Sharpen and keep skills up-to-date throughout
    your career
  • Maintain proficiency and credibility
  • Demonstrate your commitment to continuous
    learning

6
ASIS International Recertification System
  • ASIS Uses the CPE System
  • Continuing Professional Education
  • (Effective January 1, 2008)
  • CPE is a standard of measure used to calculate
    continuing education and professional
    development.
  • CPE equates one credit to a minimum 50 minutes of
    educational, instructional, publishing, or
    service time.
  • View the CPE PowerPoint Presentation at
  • http//www.asisonline.org/certification/cpe.ppt

7
Why CPE System is Used?
  • Benefits of Using the CPE System
  • It is a clear and precise unit of measure
  • It eliminates ambiguity about how to divide and
    attribute credits
  • It is recognized worldwide by a variety of
credentialing bodies such as - ACFE and ISC(2)
  • It enhances the ability and opportunity to
    calculate credits for multiple recertification
    programs

8
What is a Recertification Term?
  • The recertification term is the period of time
    between
  • passing the CPP, PCI, or PSP examination, and the
  • deadline for submitting sufficient credits to
    recertify.

9
Reporting Recertification Activities
  • How Often Should RecertificationActivities be
    Reported?
  • Its mandatory to report activities by the end of
  • your recertification period. However, it is
recommended that activities are reported as often
    as possible, as they occur.

10
How Many CPE Credits are Needed?
  • All certification programs have the same 3-year
    recertification term.
  • The following CPEs are required for
    recertification
  • 60 for CPP
  • 45 for PSP and PCI
  • Recertification fees are the same for all
programs(70 for members and 90 for
    non-members)

11
Understanding the Recertification Process
  • Separate recertification forms are needed for
    CPP, PSP and PCI recertification.
  • This is true even if some or all of your
activities qualify for credit under more than one
    certification.

12
Understanding the Recertification Process
  • Recertification Activities
  • CPPs may earn their recertification credits by
using a combination of both educational and
volunteer activities, ensuring that the latter
accounts for no more than 50 percent of their
    total CPP credit submission.
  • PCIs and PSPs may not submit ASIS leadership
    activities for recertification.
  • Public and program credit services are available
    to all.

13
Examples of Various Methods to Earn CPEs
  • Security-related Chapter program attendance
  • Certification program services (participating in
a Job Analysis, Item Writing group or Pass Point
    study)

  • Virtual forums

    management-related organization
  • Public service projects
