PRAYER IS
2
Prayer is ......
Prayer is heaven's ordained means of success in
the conflict with sin and the development of
Christian character.
3
Prayer is communion with God, the Fountain of
wisdom, the Source of strength, and peace, and
happiness. CG 518.1
4
Let all who visit Christians see that the hour
of prayer is the most precious, the most sacred,
and the happiest hour of the day.
5
As a part of
religious service singing is as much an act of
worship as is prayer. Indeed, many a song is
prayer. If the child is taught to realize this,
he will think more of the meaning of the words he
sings and will be more susceptible to their
power. CG 523.4
6
Prayer is not to work any change in God it is
to bring us into harmony with God. When we make
request of Him, He may see that it is necessary
for us to search our hearts and repent of sin.
7
Never a prayer is offered, however faltering,
never a tear is shed, however secret, never a
sincere desire after God is cherished, however
feeble, but the Spirit of God goes forth to meet
it.
8
Even before the prayer is uttered or the yearning
of the heart made known, grace from Christ goes
forth to meet the grace that is working upon the
human soul. COL 206.1
9
To praise God in fulness and sincerity of
heart is as much a duty as is Prayer
10
God has given us evidence that prayer is
essential in order to receive strength to contend
with the powers of darkness, and to do the work
allotted us. Our own strength is weakness, but
that which God gives is mighty, and will make
every one who obtains it more than conqueror.
11
Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a
friend
12
Prayer is the key in the hand of faith to
unlock heaven's storehouse, where are treasured
the boundless resources of Omnipotence
Steps To Christ p.95
13
He comforts His trembling servant and assures him
that his prayer has been heard in heaven.
14
The divine influences that come in answer to the
prayer of faith will accomplish in the soul of
the suppliant all for which he pleads.
15
It is prayer that unites hearts. It is prayer to
the Great Physician to heal the soul that will
bring the blessing of God. Prayer unites us with
one another and with God. Prayer brings Jesus to
our side, and gives new strength and fresh grace
to the fainting, perplexed soul to overcome the
world, the flesh and the devil. Prayer turns
aside the attacks of Satan. SpM 67.2
16
Prayer is to be offered for the preservation of
life, for the preservation of every power and
faculty, that we may render the highest service
to our Maker. It is to be offered for temporal
necessities and blessings. In the prayer Christ
gave His disciples, the request is made for daily
bread.
17
Prayer is a necessity for it is the life of the
soul. Family prayer, public prayer, have their
place but it is secret communion with God that
sustains the soul-life.
18
REMEMBER Never a prayer is offered, however
faltering, never a tear is shed, however secret,
never a sincere desire after God is cherished,
however feeble, but the Spirit of God goes forth
to meet it.

Meditation is Educating the Imagination. You
need to dwell upon the assurances of God's Word,
to hold them before the mind's eye. Point by
point, day by day, repeat the lessons there
given, over and over, until you learn the bearing
and import of them. We see a little today, and by
meditation and prayer, more tomorrow. And thus
little by little we take in the gracious promises
until we can almost comprehend their full
significance. 6BC 1085.2
29
In this age of the world there is an
unprecedented rage for pleasure. Dissipation and
reckless extravagance everywhere prevail. The
multitudes are eager for amusement. The mind
becomes trifling and frivolous because it is not
accustomed to meditation or disciplined to study.
30
Why is it that our youth, and even those of
maturer years, are so easily led into temptation
and sin?--It is because the word of God is not
studied and meditated upon as it should be. A
firm, decided will-power is not brought into the
life and character, because the sacred
instruction of God is not made the study, and the
subject of meditation.
31
Meditation upon holy things will elevate and
refine the mind, and will develop Christian
ladies and gentlemen. CE 109.1
32
The thought that we are in God's world, in the
presence of the great Creator of the universe,
who made man after his own likeness, will lead
the mind into broad, exalted fields for
meditation.
33
  • The thought that God's eye is watching over us,
that he loves us, and cared so much for us as to
give his dearly beloved Son to redeem us, that we
might not miserably perish, is a great one and
he who opens his heart to the acceptance and
contemplation of themes like these, will never be
    satisfied with trivial, sensational subjects.

34
We need to look constantly to Jesus,
realizing that it is His power which does the
work. While we are to labor earnestly for the
salvation of the lost, we must also take time for
meditation, for prayer, and for the study of the
Word of God.
35
John calls to remembrance the wonderful
incidents that he has witnessed in the life of
Christ. In imagination he again enjoys the
precious opportunities with which he had once
been favored, and is greatly comforted. Suddenly
his meditation is broken in upon he is addressed
in tones distinct and clear. He turns to see from
whence the voice proceeds, and lo! he beholds his
Lord, whom he had loved, with whom he had walked
and talked, and whose sufferings upon the cross
he had witnessed.
36
Those who will put on the whole
armor of God and devote some time every day to
meditation and prayer and to the study of the
Scriptures will be connected with heaven and will
have a saving, transforming influence upon those
around them.--Testimonies, vol. 5, p. 112.

37
Your work being always urgent, it
is difficult for you to secure time for
meditation and prayer but this you must not fail
to do. The blessing of Heaven, obtained by daily
supplication, will be as the bread of life to
your soul and will cause you to increase in
spiritual and moral strength, like a tree planted
by the river of waters, whose leaf will be
always green, and whose fruit will appear in
due time. CH 368.1

38
Women to Train the
Mind. --Women professing
godliness generally fail to
train the mind.
They leave it uncontrolled, to go
where it will. This is a great mistake. Many seem
to have no mental power. They have not educated
mind to think and because they have not done
this, they suppose they cannot. Meditation and
prayer are necessary to a growth in grace.--2T
187 (1856). DG 80.3

39
John 1613 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of
truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth
for he shall not speak of himself but whatsoever
he shall hear, that shall he speak and he will
show you things to come.
40
Many attend religious

services, and are refreshed and comforted by
the word of God but through neglect of
meditation, watchfulness, and prayer, they lose
the blessing, and find themselves more destitute
than before they received it. Often they feel
that God has dealt hardly with them. They do not
see that the fault is their own.

41
All day Jesus toiled, teaching
the ignorant, healing the sick, giving sight
to the blind, feeding the multitude and at the
eventide or in the early morning, He went away to
the sanctuary of the mountains for communion with
His Father. Often He passed the entire night in
prayer and meditation, returning at daybreak to
His work among the people. DA 259.5

42
God should be the highest object of our thoughts.
Meditating upon him, and pleading with him,
elevates the soul and quickens the affections. A
neglect of meditation and prayer will surely
result in a declension in religious interests.
Then will be seen carelessness and slothfulness.
Religion is not merely an emotion, a feeling. It
is a principle that is interwoven with all the
daily duties and transactions of life.

43
While some portions
of the word are easily
understood, the true

meaning of other parts
is not so readily
discerned.
There must be patient study and meditation, and
earnest prayer. Every student, as he opens the
Scriptures, should ask for the enlightenment of
the Holy Spirit, and the promise is sure, that it
will be given. GW92 127.2

44

Educate your mind to love the Bible, to love the
prayer meeting, to love the hour of meditation,
and, above all, the hour when the soul communes
with God. HP 91.6
45
We must look to Jesus, study His words, pray
for His spirit. We should be more frequently
alone with God in meditation and prayer. Let
us pray more and talk less.

46
One hour's meditation is more valuable than days
spent studying the most able authors.-

You will receive more strength by spending one
hour each day in meditation, and mourning over
your failings and heart-corruptions, and pleading
for God's pardoning love, and the assurance of
sins forgiven.
47
A large portion of the time being spent in study
should rather be spent in prayer and meditation.--

There is too little time spent in secret prayer
and in sacred meditation.
48

Remember, Meditation is Educating your Imagination

Prayer Revival
A revival of true godliness among us is the
greatest and most urgent of all our needs. To
seek this should be our first work. There must be
earnest effort to obtain the blessing of the
Lord, not because God is not willing to bestow
His blessing upon us, but because we are
unprepared to receive it. Our heavenly Father is
more willing to give His Holy Spirit to them that
ask Him, than are earthly parents to give good
gifts to their children. Review and Herald,
March 22, 1887.

50
--
The time has come for a thorough reformation to
take place. When this reformation begins, the
spirit of prayer will actuate every believer, and
will banish from the church the spirit of discord
and strife.--Testimonies, vol. 8, p. 251.

51
But it is our work,
by confession, humiliation,
repentance, and earnest prayer, to
fulfill the conditions upon which God has
promised to grant us His blessing. A revival
need be expected only in answer to prayer. 1SM
121 (1887). LDE 189.1

52
I tell you that there must be a thorough
revival among us. There must be a
converted ministry. There must be
confessions, repentance, and conversions. Many
who are preaching the Word need the transforming
grace of Christ in their hearts.
They
should let nothing stand in the way of their
making thorough work before it shall be forever
too late.--Letter 51, 1886. LDE 189.2

53
Reformation Must Accompany Revival. A
revival and a reformation must
take place, under the ministration of
the Holy Spirit. Revival and reformation
are two different things. Revival signifies a
renewal of spiritual life, a quickening of the
powers of mind and heart, a resurrection from
spiritual death. Reformation signifies a
reorganization, a change in ideas and theories,
habits and practices. Reformation will not bring
forth the good fruit of righteousness unless it
is connected with the revival of the Spirit.
Revival and reformation are to do their appointed
work, and in doing this work they must blend.--RH
