Title: 1
1Trials of Jesus Series
- As with the previous series with physicians, the
purpose is to present a Bible topic from the
prospective of professional in a field related to
the topic. - To show that the education and training of that
professional, usually to the doctoral level, has
not eroded the professionals faith in God.
2Legal Process in our Culture
- A legal system is supposed to allow the
vindication of rights through the seeking of
truth. - Innocent until proven guilty.
- A codified body of law exist.
- A standard of fairness is expected.
- Impartiality is demanded.
- Capital Punishment results from a trial, judgment
and sentencing. - Confers the right of appeal.
3The Trial and Sentence of Jesus
- In the case of the trial of Jesus, the legal
aspects of that event offend our notions of
justice and fair play. - In fact, the trial was a farce carried out by
evil Jews and Romans. - But, God chose the time and place for this event
to occur and in so doing used evil men to
accomplish the humiliation of Jesus from a human
event standpoint while He chose this time to
forsake Jesus from the third to the ninth
hour. - While the physical suffering of Jesus on the
cross is not to be taken lightly, it was not the
centerpiece of the propitiation of our sins. - The real propitiation came from God turning his
back on His Own Son and allowed Jesus to
experience the very essence of Hell, which is
the absence of God in order to atone for our
sins. - In other words, Jesus experienced Hell so we
would not have to.
4Inevitability Once God set The Plan, it was
accomplished in His mind but yet had to play out
in human events.
- The lamb was slain (blood sacrifice) from the
foundation of the world to heal the rift between
man and God. - God set human events in motion in Genesis.
- Old Testament prophecies continued to confirm
Gods Plan beginning Gen. 315. - Jesus came and said I am the one who will die on
the cross. - When Jesus prayed in the Garden, if possible let
this cup pass it was not because there was
another way. If there was another way, then
Jesus had been lying that I am the one about to
die. Everything up to this point of the prayer
was Jesus saying it is happening now! Gods
answer to Jesus prayer was no, there is no other
way that is true to what I have promised. The
prayer was a demonstration that in the blood
sacrifice of Jesus, God is faithful to his
promises. - So it did not matter what legal process would
have been employed, Jesus was about to be nailed
to the cross by the hands of Godless men (Acts
223).
5Inevitable continued
- God brought forth Jesus in the fullness of time
which means that God chose the conditions that
were right to see his plan unfold in human
events. - God allowed both the evil of the Jewish leaders
and the perverted system of justice of the Romans
to allow the humiliation and punishment of an
innocent lamb to pay for the sins of the world. - There was no force that could prevent the
fulfillment of God promises. - God intended both the process and the result to
demonstrate to us His grace and love in that He
made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf,
so that we might become the righteousness of God
in Him. 2 Corinthians 521
6The Crucifixion of Christ was inevitable because
it was set from before the foundation of the
world was laid.
- 1 Peter 120 (NASB95) 20 For He was
foreknown before the foundation of the world, but
has appeared in these last times for the sake of
you - Revelation 138 (NASB95) 8 All who dwell
on the earth will worship him, everyone whose
name has not been written from the foundation of
the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has
been slain. - Matthew 2534 (NASB95) 34 Then the King
will say to those on His right, Come, you who
are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom
prepared for you from the foundation of the
world.
7John the Baptizer said that Jesus was the One.
- John 126-34 (NASB95)
- 26 John answered them saying, I baptize
in water, but among you stands One whom you do
not know. - 27 It is He who comes after me, the
thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie. - 28 These things took place in Bethany
beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. - 29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to
him and said, Behold, the Lamb of God who takes
away the sin of the world! - 30 This is He on behalf of whom I said,
After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than
I, for He existed before me. - 31 I did not recognize Him, but so that
He might be manifested to Israel, I came
baptizing in water. - 32 John testified saying, I have seen
the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven,
and He remained upon Him. - 33 I did not recognize Him, but He who
sent me to baptize in water said to me, He upon
whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining
upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the
Holy Spirit. - 34 I myself have seen, and have
testified that this is the Son of God.
8Jesus Himself said that He was the One who would
die on the cross.
- John 1227-32 (NASB95)
- 27 Now My soul has become troubled and
what shall I say, Father, save Me from this
hour? But for this purpose I came to this hour. - 28 Father, glorify Your name. Then a
voice came out of heaven I have both glorified
it, and will glorify it again. - 29 So the crowd of people who stood by
and heard it were saying that it had thundered
others were saying, An angel has spoken to Him.
- 30 Jesus answered and said, This voice
has not come for My sake, but for your sakes. - 31 Now judgment is upon this world now
the ruler of this world will be cast out. - 32 And I, if I am lifted up from the
earth, will draw all men to Myself. - 33 But He was saying this to indicate
the kind of death by which He was to die.

16Inevitable Points Repeated
- The lamb was slain (blood sacrifice) from the
foundation of the world to heal the rift between
man and God. - God set human events in motion in Genesis.
- Old Testament prophecies continued to confirm

17Now there is a new covenant sealed with blood.
- In Genesis, God said I will provide a way.
- God worked with His people to prepare the way for
the Lamb. - God sent the Lamb, born of a woman to save the
world. - God allowed the Lamb to be sacrificed for all who
would be drawn to Him. "His blood shed for the
remission of sins Matt. 2628 - God raised the Lamb in victory.
- The Gospel was preached.
- Responding believers repented and were baptized
for the remission of sins and were added to the
number being saved. Acts 2 - God now says, Be thou faithful until death and I
will give you the crown of life. Rev. 210b - The common thread from beginning to end is that
if we trust in Him - WE WIN!
18A New and Living Way
- Hebrews 1019-25 (NASB95)
- 19 Therefore, brethren, since we have
confidence to enter the holy place by the blood
of Jesus, - 20 by a new and living way which He
inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His
flesh, - 21 and since we have a great priest over
the house of God, - 22 let us draw near with a sincere heart
in full assurance of faith, having our hearts
sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our
bodies washed with pure water. - 23 Let us hold fast the confession of
our hope without wavering, for He who promised is
faithful - 24 and let us consider how to stimulate
one another to love and good deeds, - 25 not forsaking our own assembling
together, as is the habit of some, but
encouraging one another and all the more as you
see the day drawing near.
