A Study Through Acts
2Introduction.
- In our study of Acts 1, we saw two important
events - The promise of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit
would be extremely instrumental in the spreading
of the gospel, the establishment of the church.
Without the work of the Holy Spirit, the apostles
and other inspired teachers would have failed in
their endeavors. - The selecting of Matthias to take Judass place
as an apostle.

6The Coming of the Holy Spirit
Pentecost, that is, the fiftieth day (from a
Greek word meaning fiftieth), or Harvest Feast,
or Feast of Weeks, may be regarded as a
supplement to the Passover. It lasted for but one
day. From the sixteenth of Nisan seven weeks were
reckoned inclusively, and the next or fiftieth
day was the day of Pentecost, which fell on the
sixth of Sivan (about the end of May). Ex. 2316

15Key Events from Acts 2
- Key Event 1 The Holy Spirit came upon the
apostles as was promised by Jesus. This event
enabled the apostles to teach the world the whole
counsel of Gods word. (Cf. John 1426 1526
Matthew 2818-20)
16Key Events from Acts 2
- Key Event 2 Peter explained the miraculous
events were a fulfillment of the prophecy written
in Joel 228-32. Joels prophecy was inspired by
the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 119-21) In Joels
prophecy, he wrote, And it shall come to pass
That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall
be saved. . . . (Joel 232, NKJV)
17Key Events from Acts 2
- Key Event 3 Peter reminded the people of Jesus
of Nazareth. The simple gospel of Jesus Christ
tells of his death, resurrection, and exaltation.
Because of His death, our sins are forgiven and
His covenant came into power. Because of His
resurrection, we know that we shall be
resurrected, overcoming death. Because of His
exaltation, we know that He is our King, High
Priest, and Mediator.
18Key Events from Acts 2
- Key Event 4 The promise of the gift of the
Holy Spirit. - The gift of the Holy Spirit is the promise of
salvation. - The Holy Spirit promised salvation to all who
would believe. - The Holy Spirit promised the resurrection of
Jesus Christ, which made this salvation possible. - Peter told the people what to do to receive the
promise of salvation. - The gift of the Holy Spirit was the salvation
which had been promised through the revelation of
the Holy Spirit.
19Key Events from Acts 2
- Key Event 5 Those who obeyed continued in
worship and serving the Lord. We continue even to
this day to worship and serve the Lord.
20Key Events from Acts 2
- Key Event 6 The Lord continued to add to the
church those who were being saved. Even to this
day, the Lord continues to add to the church
those who are being saved. Let us teach the lost
so that the Lord will have more saved to add to
His church.
